Not a Bug Cannot get rid of last crew member assigned to land bodyguard duty.

MrMister

Sailor Apprentice
Steps to reproduce:

1. Talk to walking crew member on deck, ask for a land party. 1, 2 or 3 crew members; it doesn't matter.
2. Go to port, or anywhere on land where the land party follows you to.
3. Talk each of them and tell them to reurn to the ship. They seem to do so, and run to a near location-change point.
4. Change location/zone, and one of them will still be there.

Telling that remaining crew member to go back to the ship is useless; he does go away upon being told, buit is back with you again next time you change zones.

The only way to get rid of him is for him to die, or for you to talk to him and promote him to officer, and then promptly fire him. Both ways are bothersome, as they both cost you a crew member, and the second costs you either money or reputation.

To reiterate, this has to do with regular crew members assigned to the land party, NOT officers. They don't appear in the land party selection menu.

Found and relyiably reproduced in the Nathaniel Hawk story, and I remember this happening in NH 14 beta as well.

That is correct. If you dismiss the crew one by one, you'll still have one at the next location. This is probably intentional. Your standing order is that you want crew ashore. The last one probably reported back to the ship, got told off for leaving you unprotected, and rushed back to find you. ;)

If you really want to dismiss all your escort crew, you don't need to tell each one individually. There's another command which will get rid of the whole lot at once. "Return to the ship men, I won't need you here!"
