Buying an Import? How important is it to have the manual??

I loved playing the original Pirates! way back in '87 when I was a kid. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> I want to buy the new game b/c the old one brings back such fond memories.

I was about to buy a new & sealed import game off eBay because the imports are usually a very good price.

However, since the imports don't come with a manual, I hesitated and came here.

How important is the manual to gameplay? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

I've bought imports in the past for the "idiot proof" games like fps's and drivers like GTAvc but obviously you dont need manuals with those.

RTS and games sim games like rtc and the ceaser city sims are a manual must have.

What say you on needing a manual in Sid Meier's Pirates! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" />

I never even opened mine.

Seriously, this game is just as idiot proof and simple as any fps. You can play the whole game on your numpad.

The manual is nice - but I wouldn't say it was essential. There are some nice features in there that you might not be aware of, but you can figure them out.

Note that the boxed US version of the game has the CD key printed in the maual.

Yes the game is idiot proof, however the game comes with a map which can be a handy reference, as well as charts and lists of all the items, ships, etc, which can be useful. There is a detailed explaination of the different areas and the opportunities for the different nationalities in those eras. It also has some 'flavor' elements incorporated "memories of captain sydney" which are somewhat entertaining.

The map nevertheless is in english, so don't worry !

The Australian dvd version has no map <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

Thanks for the link <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

why not get one from gogamer.com for $29.90 and get the boxed version?

I don't work for them, and don't get a single cent if you do, but I've used them in the past and they have worked out for me.

the thing is the ebay stuff is extremely sketch ("we're not sending a manual because it is in ukranian/thai but the game is english")and at best is gray market stuff which may not be patchable as has happened with other games..

Anybody have a link to a pdf manual in english?

I bought my copy in Thailand, and although it says an english manual is included on the disk, it ain't there.

Dude, it should have, I bought mine from EB Redbank, I suggest you take game back and ask for a replacement, the Oz version comes with a map.

mate, if you bought the game you should not need to ask that question! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

I am guessing you have a pirated version or you downloaded of the net otherwise you wouldn't ask such an stupid question! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

Buy the game then you will have the map and the info you need.
