Buy Cannons

Sorry of posted before - couldn't find it in search.

When i have cannons destroyed in sea battle, how do i replace them? Every time I go to merchant to buy some, it doesn't let me, even though he has them in stock. So my ship gets less and less cannons (and is fully repaired)

I've never seen a mechant with cannons in stock. Sure you're not confusing the columns of the trade screen? The best (and to my knowledge only) source for cannons are captured ships...

you can actually buy more cannons than max. cannons for your ship. these can't be used in battle but if you had max. cannons plus 4 extras and went to battle and lost 2 cannons, when you came out you'd still have max. cannons and now, 2 extra. can't help you with why the mechant doesn't sell to you unless the port hates you...

I seem to recall seeing cannon for sail at one port, don't remember which one or what era I was in at the time. I didn't need any, so didn't pay too much attention, but thought it was strange. I'd never seen it before. Just started a new game last night and haven't played for a few days.

It's cannons you have total.

I usually keep about `5-10` extra cannons just in case I cannot replace any I lose after a fight (sometimes I get overzealous and sink the enemy ship <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> ).

I have seen cannons for sale at a pirate haven ONCE. I have never not been able to get cannons from a defeated ship. I do not carry any "spares".

I typically don't carry any spares either - and if I lose any, it's in a battle I'm likely going to win anyhow, so when I plunder the other ship, their cannon are mine! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Something I noticed during betatesting - when you go to a shipyard to sell extra ships, and you still have cargo, the shipwright warns you that you need to dump cargo - well, if you sell the ship anyhow before dumping the cargo, the cargo that DOES get dumped is NOT cannons... So make sure that you get rid of any unwanted cannons before you sell a ship that has extra goods on it, or you will end up with a shipload of cannons and no space for food. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I have seen some ports cary cannons, usually they are pirate havens that have one of the top ten pirates based in it. I think, I'm not positive on that one.

Dude, aren't you taking them from captured vessels? I never pay for cannons.

hmm... now playing my second career, i never fired my cannons, not even once. It is just more effective (and less dangerous) to just attack with the wind and cap it asap.

If you´re a good fencer, sure. But, on the other hand, without having fired at the enemy, their morale is higher and (of course) they have the full crew.

If you pound a ship into oblivion then no, you won't get any/many cannon from them. You need to hit them a little, if at all (just like real pirates did, they typically only fired chasers, or else fired a broadside just to let the merchant crew know they meant business - they did not fire to damage ships) board and fight man to man. THen you get all the cannon that ship had. I've never needed cannon, I always have extra to sell when I hit port.
