Build 14 Alpha 9

Yea, but the irony of the whole story is, i found this albatross after the successfully boarding of an pirate ship in a box in the in the captain's cabin...
What a bad, bad sign... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/8q.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":8q" border="0" alt="8q.gif" />

There is just ONE WAY you are SUPPOSED to be able to get rid of it. And that's not it.
It is a special way specifically intended to rid yourself of albatrosses. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Would be cool if when you find an albatross, you should lose all your crew. And then become immortal, like in the poem <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

That'd be... extensive. And evil. VERY evil! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Maybe you need the book: Cooking with albatross, so you maybe fly in your next fight?! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Board a ship and when you get to the captain put it in his chest then do waht you allways do but dont take the ship ^^

Maybe give it to one of them"No hope" priests.

anchored in dowesen, i`ve found a nice new ship with a Lion painted on the arc.
that ships was enormous, HALF on the water, HALF on the bench.
then i got a CTD again:

in Redmond, same problem:
i`ve found a biiiiiiiiiiiig ship, half of it crushing and fagocitating people on the bench.
then CTD:

i`ve bought a new ship, it` s a Fleut Snow, there were two of them in the shipyard, the one with more cargo and less HP it`s the one on which my avatar`s enjoying himself.
however i `ve found out that i was not able to buy more than 27 unit of food.
the merchant got 900 unit, i could buy all the other merchandises with no limit, but the food only 27.....
anyone can say sth about it ?
should i be worried? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />
in Dowesen i arrived to the Pirate Fort by walk, but i was able to leave the place on my ship, this should not happen, mmh?
but the very interesting thing is that, when leaving there are 2 Dutch warships sinkin` pirates, but not the fort, which is targeting.....the pirates!!!!
pirates VS pirates???
maybe another script for pirate forts should be written?

small, but annoying bug:
when chasing two ship, often the player need to target one, just because they split and go in opposite directions.
i always choose the bigger, and after 40 minutes of real battle against a 4 masted galleon a big "HUZZAH" is heard: the pack brig surrendered.
after rotating the visual camera, i could not see that darn ship!
even in the build 13 happened that a very distant ship raised the white flag!
in another case a big ship with 75% of the crew still alive (more than 200 men), just the sails 50% torned, and full firepower gave up after a long "battle".
the AI should be refined, don`t you think? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_<" border="0" alt="dry.gif" />

thanks for reading.
vinni.

Ships don't surrender because you've shot them up, they surrender because their morale is low. And probably a dozen more reasons I don't know about. As far as I know, the morale calculations are working properly.

You couldn't see the surrendered ship visually, but he was on your radar. If he wasn't, he wouldn't have surrendered... unless possibly he sailed close to another enemy ship. That one annoyed me too, and I made some changes which help, but there's only so much that can be done to fix it. If you get between two ship, sometimes one will surrender. Use that to your advantage.

Those person-specific bugs are REALLY annoying! It seems that things that work fine for one person, don't work for everyone else. WTF???
For example, I haven't EVER had my savegames without pictures. Nor do I get lag when just walking around.
I've never had a crash upon going to the worldmap either, since the fixing of the midnight CTD bug.
The crazy thing is: I installed Alpha 9 as per the installation instructions and compared the result to my own game version and it is the same.
If all the files are the same, shouldn't the results for everyone be the same too? But noooo..... weird things happen all the time anyway! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Pieter,

I really can't figure this out either although if I am the only one haveing these problems I am inclined to think this is something going on on my end not with the game. I at first thought that it might be an installation error and after three tries I relatively convinced that I have got that done correctly. Now I am wondering if there is some error in my build 13 final version and if that is ok, I am wondering if maybe a hic cup occurred during the download of Alpha 9 or the patch or, although not very likely, that maybe I got an earlier version of the download that wasn't finished.

I used to be pretty good at play testing and finding bugs, but when I can't get the basic features of game play to work it is really difficult to contribute much.

So what do you think of my hypothethes about the souce of the problems I am having. Any ideas on how to solve the problem. I am going to try to test build 13 next and see if I get the crashes. Then I thought I would re-download every thing and try a clean install again. Could you recomend a specific download site if you think that will help.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There is just one fort in 3D sailing mode on Douwesen and it's the Dutch one.

Other people are also reporting some of the weirdest bugs ever (eg. losing all your icons when pressing the Spacebar; that's reported by someone on the ModDB).
I simply haven't got a clue what's going on. The download site shouldn't matter; if a download is corrupted, it shouldn't be installing <i>at all</i>.
I'm almost considering just burning my game version on some DVDs and sending those to the people who have the worst troubles,
but that would be really time-consuming on my part and I'm already severely limited in my available time.
Not to mention it'd be a legal slippery slope, especially if everybody starts asking for that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Would be advisable, a ship, that has the prospects to escape, why should it surrender?
I have often noticed that ship´s, which are all ready about 1000 yards away, still surrender after some time.

But, i would not call this a bug, maybe it´s because the crew´s morale is sinking or foot rations are low...
Also, could it be, that my ship has a´n higher speed so it would catch up the other ship?

Not sure if they're turned off by default; they might be. In Build 13 they are, but they might accidentally have ended up being enabled in Alpha 9. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
