Build 14 Alpha 6 Update

Would be a good idea imho, a french officer armed with brass knuckles looks a bit...wierd. Btw, I just had the pleasure of being killed by the new shotgun <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

My suggestion would be keep things like that as eatereggs. Some players want to play a "realistic" pirate-themed game (or even roleplay) and something like the shotgun really kills the immersion, perhaps a toogle in buildings.h would be the best compromise.

LOL. I wouldn't want it with a toggle though. That's too much trouble. Just have the thing disabled and only available as easter egg when the player does a bit of exploring or knows where to find the thing. I like the idea of the player having to fight Clint Eastwood (just a random thought) to be able to get the shotgun at all. That way it wouldn't be easy to get. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
 
would clint be in the abandoned buccaneer camp on hispaniola? then there would be a reason why it's abandoned. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Just installed everything by moving every indivdual item in the folder with BOTH updates. Got everything right and tweaked my build settings to my liking.

Start the game from the desktop and this happens: (See attachment)

Technical note on shotguns/blunderbuss scatterguns/etc. - such weapons are very effective at sword range or just a little over, but their efficiency drops off VERY quickly as range increases. Also, the spread pattern is probably not as large as the movies would lead people to think. The shotgun effect might be unbalancing because it has stats more like a 6-pounder load of grapeshot than a man-portable scattergun.

Scatter-shot should not need to be an "easter-egg" item ... its realistic limitations should reduce its general effectiveness such that it is only useful under specific conditions.

This might be the problem. Update 2 is meant as a stand-alone patch for build 14.6, as far is I know, a fresh install of 14.6+update2 should work properly.

A few bug reports/observations so far (just got my first pirate-designed Manowar <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> )

-trying to land on Cuba second shore always results in a CTD
-the long "Land ahoy" distance between Cuba and Redmond seems to cause problems (pressing space somewhere
in the middle -> CTD)
- the boarding bug is still there, though it happens much less frequently (seems connected to the sword sheating, the
new blue icon with the crossed saber/pistol sometimes disappears when I´m running around with a drawn sword
for too long after the fight is over - might be coincidence, though). But the console fix works 100% <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
-skill improvement through talking to people in cities happens too often (once i got 4 points in single town and it cost me only about 14000 gold)
-same with the "Want to bargain?" vendors walking around towns

I know the last 2 points are more a after-beta rebalancing thing, but I think it wouldn´t hurt to mention them

- the new Black Pearl is absolutely amazing, whoever (Kazeite?) made the model/texturing has done a great job!
(btw, I don´t think she should be buyable at the pirate shipyards)

- how do I get the other unique ships? They´re all set to canbuy/canencounter but I´ve never seen a frigate with 50
cannons (should be the amsterdam, right?) in a shipyard. And I tried a lot <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />


P.S. Oh, and hi Ron, enjoyed RCM for TLD 2.4 loads, hope your other M&B projects are coming along well, too!

Not specifically, but I've played with some black powder shotguns and sawed-off stuff, so I have a pretty good idea how they perform. Since you ask...

The function of the funnel on the end of the blunderbuss was to make it faster to reload. The diameter at the narrow point of the barrel will determine the shot pattern, not the flare at the end. And with black powder, shortening the barrel will lower the power of the weapon substantially (as black powder needs the longer barrel because it takes longer to burn).

Still, the statement stands. If any scattergun in the game is so powerful that it needs to be restricted, then there is something wrong with the stats balancing.
 
well, what the blunderbuss does in the game is give the foe your aiming at the full blast, and a little damage to others standing in the vicinity. maybe the area of attack should be a bit narrower, but it's range is pretty short, and it seems more or less good to me.
 
The blunderbuss is weapon that does damage to multiple foes, but is not extremely effective. It does not need to be limited. The shotgun is completely anachronistic and should, I think, be 100% limited except as easter egg.

Otherwise people'd be asking how they could get them. In the final Build 14 none of them will be available for purchase. Try and install your game up to Alpha 6, test run, install Update 2, test run again. If the game won't run after installing Update 2, enable <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9234" target="_blank">error logging</a> and show the contents of system.log, compile.log and the possible error.log here.
 
Have found a major bug, may or may not be unique.

Whenever an enemy ship is taken and you enter negotiations with the enemy captain, his name is always "Deadly Pirate" and he takes an officer space. When he is assigned to ships or used as an officer he causes a crash in someway or another. Capturing another "Deadly Pirate" erases the first one as an officer and you end up only with the 2nd Deadly Pirate.

How ever capturing a 3rd creates another "empty officer".

Not sure if this is unique but it concerns me that none of the Pirates have names and that I'm getting free officers who I can't eject from my crew. xD
 
Hmm; that's not really good. Was that problem present in Alpha 6 without the updates as well?
 
I'm pretty sure thats unique, even if I'm no expert.
Never had that problem before.
