Bug ?

GIJoe

Landlubber
I did not see a thread for bugs, I did see one for technical issues..

At any rate, I am playing apprentice, fencing skill, English, 1660

I took over Cartagena, installed an English governor.. from time to time I see cartagena launching a Spanish Raider.. I have stayed around and watched, they are actually originating from Cartagena..

This does not seem right to me.. is this a bug?

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Just wondering... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> Seems pretty sneaky, then, that your English gov's running Spanish raiders! MUST be a bug... Too bad you weren't a betatester. Interesting that no one caught that before. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

So what I'd do is every time I see a Spanish raider come out of there, I'd just attack them and board and plunder! It'll do your reputation with your own governor a WORLD of good! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Well Cat, seems it is NOT a bug, or at least not being acknowledged as one. Here is the reply from Firaxis <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Does actually make sense and if thats the case then there is more going on behind the scenes than we thought.

What was the question you asked? You sacked the town and put an English Governor there or did you sneak in and talked with the Spanish Governor?

Well sailing out after sneaking in is all well and good, but how does that answer that a Spanish Raider is coming out of a presumably English port? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Is Barry implying that an AI Spanish Raider, as a privateer, might sneak into port and then sail back out, hence your encountering them? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

It could be, but it's still kind of weird. Specially if it's only from that single port. Personally I've never noticed any raiders or other warships coming out of a port that was not their own.

It's a cheap explanation for another major blunder by Firaxis.

Pity they should have resort to something like that, but by now the complaints about the army of Baron Raymondos will have started flooding in... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

How about this one. I sacked a town and installed a French governor. After leaving the town I noticed a Spanish ship nearby that was transporting a new governor. I didn't bother to check what town it was heading to and simply plundered it. Next time I went to a French city they were pleased with all the Spanish ships I had sunk and the new town I had given them, but said I had plundered a ship with a French governor on it. Seems like a bug to me that a Spanish ship would be counted as French just because it was headed to a town that was now French. If a town switches allegence I think any governors, immigrants, troops, etc... should divert to another city or return to their port of origin. From what I have observed so far towns can be supplied new troops, governors etc... by enemies if the town switches while the ship is enroute.

Yes, in my opinion he is implying just that. Foreigners may sneak into towns just as the player does....

If that is true, this is why I typed more going on in the back ground than at least I thought.

On the other hand, it could also be as Capn_Enigma posted..

Interesting premise... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Capn_Enigma, I know Barry Caudill, met him at E3 and have had occasion to email him from time to time. I also had interaction with him during the Betatesting of Pirates! I seriously doubt he'd make a statement like that to hide the fact that there might be a bug or mistake, or as you put it, a "major blunder". He's always been quite forthcoming with us if there were any problems or oddities. He is a big fan of the ORIGINAL game, and really dug the fact that he was able to help develop this new version. It's just not like him to try to hide anything simply for the sake of "marketing" or protecting Firaxis.

And quite frankly, IMO, this "major blunder" is not such a major thing...

Now that governor thing, that's a problem! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> But an enemy ship coming out of a port? No problem to ME, it's just another TARGET! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
