Black screen problems

Okay so I installed patch 7 light and started a new game.
The tutorial loads and I tell Malcolm to bug off and I exit the cabin.
Then i walk to the side of the ship and go to port.
I get a black screen instead of a loading screen, and then
the sound comes in and I can hear myself walking on the dock
but my screen is still black. So basically I can't play.
 
5. I installed the Build Mod as per the instructions, but now my game doesn't work
Please "Enable Error Logging":
- Open "engine.ini" in your main game folder.
- Find the "debuginfo = 0" line and change it to "debuginfo = 1".
- Find the "runtimelog = 0" line and change it to "runtimelog = 1".
- Find the "tracefilesoff = 1" line and change it to "tracefilesoff = 0".
- Start the game and wait until the error occurs.
- Now find compile.log, system.log and the possible error.log in your main game folder.
- Post their contents here
It should look like this:

What's going on there? Did the game work before installing the modpack?

Something weird is going on, but I can't directly see what it is. :wacko:
 
the game worked with patch 5 a couple weeks ago. I installed patch 6 and 7 light
and I have a new video card.
 
Did the game work after installing your new video card? If yes, try installing Patch 7 Full on your current installation.
 
That sounds like the video card crashed. It might have bad ram that causes occasional crashes. Mine does.


All of that stuff is normal for patch 7. I mentioned it some time ago. There is also usually an error. log having to do with "sea.ai, aiship.c". But it runs ok.
 
Can you try a full reinstall of the stock game, then check between each step whether the game still works?
 
Stock game works, now to try Beta 1 Full.

edit* Build 14 Beta 1 Full is also working fine.
Now to add patch 7 full.

Well it looks like a reinstall fixed it.
I guess I shouldn't really be surprised.
