Bad People

John Wayne - white supremacism, racism, sexism, nationalism:

The Marlon Bando incident:

When Sacheen Littlefeather rejected the academy award in representation for Marlon Brando in order to make a peaceful statement about racism in the Hollywood industry against Native Americans (at Marlon's request), John Wayne had to be physically restrained from hitting/attacking/assaulting Sacheen -- a young girl about half his size! So much for being a gentleman -- or a decent human being for that matter.

Shortly after this ceremony, while Sacheen was talking with Marlon at his home, someone drove by and shot at his front door -- presumably trailing and aiming to harm Sacheen and/or intended as a threat/warning.

This was 1973 -- a long-long way from the Wild West, yet apparently not far enough!

Sacheen (an actor herself) was blacklisted in the aftermath by Hollywood, slandered by media, and received threats. She had not been given the opportunity to publically present/read Marlon's speech at the ceremony, and for 45 years thereafter!

Oh, for crying out loud.

So... Native American girl actress gets nearly assaulted and then shot at.
And then she's the one who gets screwed over for the rest of her life?

INsane.

People can be really good, but they also can be really BAD.
1973 is really close to us, and still this happened then.
We now are in a better place, but we still have a long way to go.

Also no matter how far we go, bad people will not cease to exist, but the good ones can stand up to them.

Yep, the purpose of this thread is to show what a bad person, or rather bad thinking and behaviour, looks like, so that we can be alerted to it in real life, and not encourage/support/engage such individuals and thinking/behaviour -- or to notice it in ourselves before it becomes a deeply integrated part of us -- as well as to show that, despite what we may naively think, genuinely bad people (with selfish and harmful thinking and intentions) do exist.

A lot of the thinking and behaviour that John Wayne exhibits here can actually be seen in the USA's current president that the people chose, for instance.

We can only fight negative human traits within ourselves and within our community if we know how to recognise them. Our current culture and social climate that we've been raised in dictates a lot in terms of how we think, what we've been exposed to, what we value, and what we overlook.

Yep, I knew that John Wayne reminded me of him, from the first sentence he said.

Indeed, if you don't know who the enemy is, how will you fight them? :yes
