<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> there, mates.

I've got a nice new flavour in my game, that being axes borrowed from the SLiB mod.

[attachmentid=562][attachmentid=563]

I'll be refining a bit more, so if anyone is interested in adding axes to their game (based on the 11/7/06 version of the game) then I'll put the mod up on the FTP. I've tested it and there seems to be no problems (simple coding changes, after all). If it's a consideration for the next version of the Build then I'll ask for some input re stats, e.g. price, damage, piercing, block. I've got something reasonable going at the moment, however, if there's enough interest, then I'd like to get a good concensus of how these weapons should function and make sure it's balanced for the game we're playing at the moment.

Cheers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

That is cool! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Do the models actually throw them?

How do the models carry them?

Do they replace a sword or pistol?

Do you have enough time to throw more than one? (i.e. like the pistols, where getting of more than one shot can be problematic)

Enquiring Mings wants to know! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />

It's a good idea for boarding ships, since sailors would normally carry boarding axes to the fights.

I'd be like'n em as well,since use a axe fer my warrior buid warrior fer Guild Wars,kinda partial to em <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Thanks, mates, and thanks also to the SLiB team for their great work.

They're blade items so they function just like swords. Sorry mates, no throwing. The only peculiarities to mention are that they're worn just like a sword on the belt so the head faces down, and when drawn and used the slashing and chopping actions look fine but the thrusting looks a little "irregular" (you don't see too many people regularly thrusting with an axe now do you? ...although it's not unheard of.). As far as I know there's no way to change the animations for the game, so we won't see them behaving other than as a sword does. I guess this a relatively small price to pay to be able to include what was after all a very common and popular sailor's weapon.

They'll be priced fairly cheaply, although thanks to the impending return of leveled items they won't all be available immediately. The "Hatchet" (portrait 3) will be level 1, basically available at the beginning of the game, and quite common. I'd like to put the "Axe" (portrait 1) and the "Boarding Axe" (portrait 2) well up in the levels, say 8 and 12 respectively, and have them a little rarer (for balance).

As far as fighting qualities are concerned then I'm thinking that their level of damage would be potentially quite strong but less consistant, there being a greater margin between min. and max. damage. Piercing would be a lot higher than swords of a similar level, however, blocking should I think be relatively poor, minimal if you like. Although they use different scaling, this is generally how the SLiB mod handles piercing and blocking for axes.

I'll test a little more, tweak a little more, drink some rum a little more <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" /> , and then I'll post some stats here.

Cheers, mates <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Hello Jack,
I like the idea of axes too. A way to get throwing axes could be like the CCC "thrown" knifes etc. A "pistol" with the axe as model etc etc. Of course no animation of the axe flying in the air. Nice. I would be happy to add this into the modpack.

Would it be possible to make the axes somehow truly distinct types of weapons? I think that blocking with an axe should be very hard if not impossible, so maybe it could be a good idea to make the blocking ability of the axes completely zero or something like that.
Just a random thought. Not sure if it's a good idea.

Yep, that's what I was thinking, too. Currently I've got the hatchet at 0% blocking and the axe and boarding axe at 5%, however 0% for all three is a definite consideration.

Cheers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Really like the axes but didn't somebody asked before to create some axes ???

Maybe he still wants to finetune his mod? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

You can't throw them? Bummer! I wanted to play Will Turner in POTC!

Still, it looks great! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

I can especially imagine crewmen favoring them in boarding actions over swords. Good work!

<i>(EDIT: Sorry mates, this was actually an easy to read table until I posted it here. Forum posts don't seem to like lots of spaces. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> )</i>

I've tried to focus on game balance and also make them a bit unique. The melee stats attempt to suggest a powerful but unwieldy weapon with no real defensive value. The Axe and Boarding Axe could possibly be given a token block value of 5%. I see them as being relatively inexpensive.

Unless there's any major objections then I'll use these figures.

Cheers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

i would like it if the hp would be lowered for every character and the damage too. So that you haven`t got SUPERSWORDS and bad swords, but that you just have to choose a sword that fit with your swordplay style.
