Armor tweak idea

I was just thinking... the guns have a couple requisits of perks: gunman, and professional.

Wouldn't it be prudent to add such requisitis for armor ?

Basic crap armor: Basic Defense
Silver and gold armor: Advanced Defense

Sound like a good idea?

Only a couple places in the code need be changed for such an effect on these three armors. However for the odd 'tailer armors', I am unsure where or even if those are in play at the moment, or working correctly if they are.

This is only an idea, possibly for Build14.

That is certainly an idea. Armor isn't very common in the beginning of the game, is it? Not sure if we need to limit the usage of armor. By the time you encounter Silver armor in the game, you probably have the Advanced Defense perk already anyway. Not sure though. It might be worth thinking about this. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Good point.

But those who play with RPGSTYLE off can buy the best armor out the gate from gregor samsa <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

But then, those who play with rpgstyle off, arnt concerned about linear progression of character (thats NOT meant to be an offensive comment!)... so, maybe this idea is sort of a lame one. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

The skin'd armor, I dont believe has an effect in game does it? In the last build I was looting the armor off of the soldiers in mass... which tells me they where being equiped with it for the effect of it.

The only thing with changing the armor requirement is, does the hired crew; have a chance to have these skills? If not then having armor in the hold would be pointless... other then to accumulate "stuff"... which can be fun too.

Maybe this could be a part of build 14,

setting up a personalized crew option such as picking a set of outfits you want them to wear...
spending some gold on "crew quality" which gives some higher level crewmates with proper skills? which in turn they get to use the 'better gear'...

who knows?

Visions of 'crew maintenance' from SHIII come to mind.

I believe the skinned armor does have effect, really. For example Spanish and Dutch soldiers: They have armor items as well, so their armor does work. I also recall that when you equip a skin with armor, you immediately receive an armor item and it is removed again if you select a different skin. That is how it once worked. Not sure if it still works now.
