Are Site owners/Beta testers still in touch with the Dev's?

If so, is there any word on a patch release?

I'm asking with regards to the FSAA/Flickering Intro' Video's with ATi cards, as I know plenty of people who cannot solve this one.

I'm not asking for a time scale here, just acknowledgement that a patch is being planned. I feel that this would allay many people’s fears and would also encourage future sales in relation to the people who are not yet buying the game due to the issues it currently has with its initial release.

Jeff_ATARI, if you're still visiting this site, can you make a comment on this? (or are you under strict orders not to?)

I have an ASUS AX800Pro card, and I don't have any problems. Try the Omega drivers: <a href="http://www.omegadrivers.net" target="_blank">HERE</a> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I know you're trying to help Drunken, but if you had spent sometime reading the posts on this subject, you would know that Omega's drivers don't make any difference when it comes to this issue.

I've used Omega's for years and had this problem. The way I fixed it (as I have previously posted) was to remove the Omega drivers, install the official ATi drivers and then the latest version of Bink player.

Yesterday I updated my drivers to the latest from ATi and the problem is back. Even if I try the old drivers the flickering is there. So perhaps my solution wasn't a solution after all.

I just get a little tired of people who have recently discovered Omega's and think that they are the answer to this problem, they are not.

As I initially said, I know you're trying to help and I appreciate that.

Now if somebody could stay on topic and answer my post I would also appreciate that.

What helps one person must not help another one. I use the newest official Ati drivers and the newest version of Bink player. Im glad that it works for me. When I try to help someone I wouldn´t say that my proposal was the ultimate solution. I just say it`s a possiblity but not that possibility.

With Omega drivers I personally had only problems and was forced to remove them. I still have no flickers and probs so far. Thx god for that.

@Hengist

Hope you find a way to solve yer probs. I´m sorry that i can´t help you.

Hi hafensaenger,

<b>Is that when FSAA is turned on?</b>

If I turn FSAA off, I don't get the flickering videos, however the 3d game world looks crap with Jaggie, shimmering graphics.

It's not a major problem as the intro videos are a very small part of the game, but I, and many others, would like it to be fixed.
(lol now I'm going off topic) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Could the site owners email their contacts and try to get a response/reply to this? I ask because all my emails so far have been unanswered.

I'll repost your post on the betaboard Hengist - but I don't know how frequently they are read by the devs... if at all.

Thanks Cap'n Toast,

I truly appreciate you taking the time and effort to do this for me (and the others that it may help).

Hengist;

Found this on another board, not sure if it helps;

<<Correct Video Issue
Go into your ATI display settings and try moving the settings slider for Direct 3d down toward performance. The intro scenes and other selection screens seem to have a cow with AA and AF settings on.>>

Hope it helps.

NOTE: I have been reading the Atari Tech Support forums and not one single post from Atari in the whole forums. Pretty wierd I think. Does anyone have experience with Atari, do they generally seem to ignore their tech support forums?

Joe,

Yes I've also read that, but what it is basically saying, is that by moving the slider towards performance it will turn FSAA off. That doesn't supply an answer or address the issue.

It's the equivalent of me moving the FSAA slider in custom to Application Preference, i.e. I turn FSAA off.

As I have already said, I can run the game without flickering videos when FSAA is turned off (the same as the official suggestion), but the 3d game world then looks crappy with jaggie, shimmering graphics, i.e. no FSAA.

The question is... Will they fix it so ATi users can turn on FSAA and not have flickering videos?

Incidently Joe, I've also read posts on the tech support Atari forum by people saying ,"does anybody from Atari support read these boards?" It seems as if they don't care about their customers after the marketing phase is complete.

Thanks for the reply however.

Gotcha,

Well I hope sooner or later Atari or Firaxis will address this and other problems. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" /> For ya'lls sake I hope it is sooner. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I totally agree with you Joe, hence my post.

I also enjoy how idiotic my siggy banner looks. I may have to get in touch with ATi and ask them to review there agreement with Firaxis/Atari and point out the official solution that is currently being given out by Firaxis/Atari , i.e. Turn off FSAA

Best played on Radeon graphic cards...what a joke, just like the Firaxis/Atari official soultion is <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Yea, I think trying to get in contact with ATI about this mght be the best way. After all if a bunch of ATI users complain to Atari/Firaxis they "only" lose image and reputation by turning a blind eye. But if ATI actually stepped on their toes about how they are not happy with the way ATI users are treated by Atari/Firaxis this would most probably get them moving.

Looks like ATI is already trying:

<a href="http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4731.html" target="_blank">http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4731.html</a>

Personally I think it is indefensible that atari is releasing KNOWN buggy products. As I posted on the atari forums, the sound problem and the fsaa flickering problem stems from the buggy bink/miles drivers from radgametools dating at least a year back to previous games. It's not like they didn't know this was going to happen. If they haven't fixed it in a year, I doubt it is going to get fixed now. At least ATI calls a bug a bug, atari's advice to defrag etc is insulting.

Thanks Pirate for posting that link.

One thing I'll say about ATi support, is that they seem to really care about their customers, unlike Firaxis/Atari, or so it would appear.

I have an ATI Radeon X700 Pro with `PCI-Express` and I have no video problems or speed problems, never had...

Now isn't that good for you. And how does this help those who are affected by the flickering bug? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

It's not an ATI only issue. More people with ATI cards are reporting the problem, but it happens with GeForce, too. I have a GeF 4 Ti 4200 card, and I have the same problem. The intro videos do nothing but flash, but the game runs smooth and everything else looks great after that. I can turn the settings down or off, and the the videos play fine, but then the game looks poor, so I have decided to leave it like it is. I have seen the opening videos, and I would rather click past them and have the rest of the game look good.

Hi bigchief,

Thanks for letting us know that Nvidia's are affected also. If I hear of anything that fixes them, I'll post.

Dusk,

The same as nem said. Thank you for that really useful contribution to this thread <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I finally got a reply from Atari tech support

Read it and weep, or cry with laughter <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Here's the reply (I wont include the guys name for various reasons)...

<b>">I am not sure what to tell you on this particular issue.

>One thing that you need to make sure of with the Radeon chips, however, is
>that when you install the new drivers for them, you MUST UNINSTALL the old

>See if that helps.
>Also, keep an eye on our site of www.atarisupport.com for any patches that
>may be released in the future. There will be a VIEW FILE DETAILS to see what
>issues the patches will be addressing. At this time, there is not a patch
>available but that is not to say that there will not be one released soon."</b>

Here's hoping that the last two lines that refer to a patch bear fruit.

Heh, kinda sad.

"If you deinstall the old driver, walk three times around your rig, place a bowl with holy water next to your screen, and then install the most recent drivers you just <i>might</i> have a slight chance that the problem's solved. Only if Jupiter and Mars are aligned correctly, of course, but I think you guessed that much already."

And if there is a patch in the works, he damn well might say so.

"Right now there is no patch, but there might be one in the future, after all this future thing is supposed to bring all kinds of stuff that we don't know about right now, I mean that's it's job, so lets just pray and hope for the best, waddaya say?"

Real smooth Atari, real smooth. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
