Additional nations in game

I put those naval officers in, but I only wanted SOME officers in it, like they were walking around in the port attending to there ships. But instead I used CCC's patrol code and I got a whole BUNCH of them, I would like to have some officers around still, but less then it is now.

What I also wanted with those uniforms was, that THEY would captain the military ships instead of the civilian types, and that on boardings you get also some sailors and midshipmen and lieutenants next to the soldiers. But since I am no coder I can't do the first thing.

And I would also like Bartolomeu to ban those f##ck and f#cky from his vocabulary, and if not, I have to do something about it.

i very much prefer the piratey feel, actually. things have gotten a bit too serious in the build. there's too much to worry about, so you can't really have as much fun as you could in the stock game, where everything was a lot simpeler.

You know, sorry guys for being a jerk. Im just all stressed out i am going back to school next month and lots of bad things happened this summer and i would like to apologize to mecriless mark. Sorry for me acting like a jerk ans swearing m8. I argee with Morgan, i like the old piratey feel too.

For that simple Piratey feel i go to AoP.

There is not a single game out on the market that allows the same immersive sail experience as the build mod, dont ruin it for us who want that immersive experience. And whats to worry about? set sail and start out as a pirate and have fun? Its that simple, and if there is too much to worry about then why not just switch off a whole load of build settings?

Realistic sailing.
Weather mod.
Realistic cannons & effects
Gunpowder
Fencing
Blade quality & damage
Food & Rum
Sail damage
Auto aim
Spyglass realism
Not reloading pistol when fighting.

ectera ecetera. All these mods that i just listed and more can actually be disabled and set to stock values. And if you just want to have fun and not worry about realism then just switch them off. And if nations are such a big deal then why not just include them in the buildsettings. Problem solved.

Apology accepted matey, i know all to well how stressful school can be. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Dont get me wrong, I love all those new features. I guess it would be kind of fun having 2 new nations then the same boring ones all the time. Its just that i never heard about Sweden and Denmark in the Caribbean.

Well they say that we learn something new every day <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

But what sweden would not have had is a major naval presence in the caribbean.
At most a few frigates or smaller craft in later eras to protect swedish interests. But other than that the traffic would have consisted soley of merchantmen and slave ships.

i have actually turned a lot of those mods off, but as you can judge by my logbook, i like the directsail mod. i think i'm the only one so far who hasn't used the world map once in the entire game with a character. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

How about Denmark?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Well Denmark would be a bit more agressive (shipwise), however their present was also mostly slaves and trade, but since Sweden and Denmark was more or less constantly at war (and Denmark was against England also) they probably had more than just a few warships, however noone over Heavy frigate or Ship of the line. So for game purpose i suggest giving them a few warships more than Sweden, since they had 3 colonies to maintain and Sweden only one.

And to when they would be there.. well the danes was there since 1672 and until 1917

Dont know if i can agree there since Sweden and Denmark never actually waged war in the caribbean. And up to 1705 the swedish navy was always larger than the danish, that was until we got a nutty war crazy king that squandered all of the nations money on war. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

True we went abit over board in that spending (and alot of good that did us <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> )

I dont recall reading about actuall engagement between danes and swedes in west indies, but they did have a present to protect the merchant fleet from pirates and the foul swedes, as i recall from a visit to the naval museum the fleet was not really royal danish but owned by the danish west indies and guinea company (alot like the east indian trading company in UK)

Putting the additional nations in the LATER periods would be pointless. The whole of idea of adding those new nations is because we have an open "nation slot" on the flag texture in the periods that don't have the USA. So we could either not add a new nation in those periods or we could take advantage of the opportunity and put an additional nation in there, just for fun. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

This nation could just have ships on the worldmap, but wouldn't necessarily have any bases ashore.
Right now all nations are pretty much the same, but we are working on adding some differences. We already made certain ship types more common for certain nations, etc. but a lot more has yet to be done. There's no point in adding dozens of nations if there's hardly any differences between them. Which is actually the case now. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

What would you consider a "piratey atmosphere" in the game? How could we achieve that? It'd be nice to have that in the game as well in additional to all the navy things.

Actually Pieter, he said there were two slots early on, and one slot later on after the USA <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Heres an interesting excerpt from an article on the history of Saint Barthelemy.
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->But Saint Barthelemy was far from being an agricultural paradise, and no gold mines were found either on its premises. Its sole asset proved to be its uneven topography, which offered remarkable moorings most particularly in the region of Gustavia. The island thus proceeded to become a strategic base for maritime activity, which was all but negligible in an era of filibusters and buccaneers who reigned over the Caribbean. This was certainly the age of pirates, and numerous stories persist of these times of rascals such as Monbars “the Exterminator”, who inspired many a legendary figure, among whom Red Rackham or Captain Hook himself. Apart from these wild and exotic celebrities, not many were interested in this island, and its importance varied significantly from one political era to the other. On one occasion, for example, it served as a simple exchange item with Sweden. In 1785, Charles Gravier, Count of Vergennes (1719-1787) and Secretary of State of Louis XVI, who had earned his name by contributing to the independence of the United States as well as by co-writing the famous commercial treaty with England in 1786, suddenly remembered the existence of Saint Barth and quickly negotiated it in exchange with the Swedish crown, swapping it with the Swedish king for as little as an authorisation to install a commercial warehouse in the port of Goteborg.

Carenage thus left history and became Gustavia, for Gustave III (1771-1792), King of Sweden was not planning to waste such an interesting acquisition, and proceeded to render it a first class commercial role. Endowed with the status of free port (abolishment of taxes), the island slowly began to develop a more and more adequate infrastructure. Construction works began, and three forts (Gustav, Octave, Karl) and a town hall were rapidly erected in the Swedish style of quick and efficient work. The island’s population increased at a similar speed.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

regarding the pirateyness, maybe some more guile tactics in combat would do. for example, being able to shoot a barrel of gunpowder with your gun to make it explode, damaging nearby opponents or destroying a structure. maybe a sort of atack which can be learned as ability which will allow you to stun an opponent while holding a sword, like giving him a kick in the nads. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> of course, the chance of this happening shouldn't be very high, because you would otherwise have a too great advantage. or maybe you would be vulnerable to attack when you do it, not being able to block.

I don't think we really need more nations to the game. The U.S.A. may be interesting, but I personally wouldn't like to see it in PotC. The game should be pre-civilized America. That's what give the feel of the game a pseudo-Caribbean era Hollywood style.

However, some Swedes "Vikings" would be interesting <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Too late, Admiral8Q. The USA are already added now. However, the game now supports different periods and the USA only appear in the last two periods, which take place during the years that the USA indeed should exist. The USA are absent from the other periods, therefore they are not forced upon you. If you want the game to be set in pre-civilized America, you can just choose to play in the "Early Explorers" or "Spanish Main" periods. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Why not also create a "Pirates of the Caribbean" era, a totally fictional era with just the typical nations, no yanks, no swedes, no danes, just pure pirateyness with brittain, france and spain and pirates.

That already exists doesn't it? Stock PotC <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_<" border="0" alt="dry.gif" />
