A Plea for Help

Jason

Buccaneer
Storm Modder
I am asking for any ideas any one has about the CTD at the world map. I have posted a error in the bug report on a recent crash, but I have no ideas about why I get a CTD every single time I go to the world map.

Obvioulsy the game is unplayable if this is the case but I gather that I am the only one who is experienceing this problem so there must be a fix somewhere or maybe I have made an installation error.

Please help if you can.

Do a step by step re-install - reading the instructions very carefully including which version you should start with.

Mudd

What is the mapspeed bug and how is it addressed?

Short Jack,

I have reinstalled three times but I will do it again if I can figure anything else out.

Thanks guys

In previous releases there was an issue with a variable called MapSpeed. When it was set too low (0.80) many people were having the CTD problem. The fix was to change it to 1.0 and the problem went away. I think was fixed in build 14, however. I 'think' the variable was found in internalsettings.h

Thanks
In 14.9 it's already set to 1.0 so it won't be that.

Re re-install - Which base game are you installing on top of - and does it play that base game before you mod it?

Yeah I know, I checked.

Well I remove the game entirely and then install base game build 13 final, build Alpha 9 then the two patches. I have done that three times, twice without deleting the program file and once deleting it, in no case have I gotten the map to work.

It shouls be like this for the installation.

- first install stock game
- second install build 13 final and run the runme.bat file at the end
- third remove PROGRAM folder, RESOURCE\INI folder and RESOURCE\MODELS\Locations\decks folder
- fourth install build 14 alpha 9 full, then run the runme.bat file
- fifth install alpha 9 patch 2 and run the runme.bat file (do not delete any folder)
- sixth Start the game and reset the controls to default in the Options menu
- seventh Tweak the controls and the game's settings to your liking in the Options menu
- eight start a new game, select a storyline and ENJOY!
