A few questions and some bug reports (build 14 b2.2)

true_blue

Powder Monkey
Some questions..

- Firstly I took a ship hunting quest from Jamaica but forgot to do it before sailing to another island and when I came back I can't find the ship they want me to sink, or any enemy ship for that matter.. what can I do about that??

- I also wonder if my officers can wear armour if I leave it in their inventory?

- How come all the skeletons are replaced with pirates in the mod?

- I am wondering why it takes 15 minutes to walk through a door.. for example, It is 15:00 while I am outside the store and when I walk through it is 15:15. I have noticed a lot of other unrealistic timings too like fast travelling to a port seems to take like 2 hours when you're already within moor range.

- I also wonder why you get negative reputation for stealing your own gold back from a pick pocket.. is there no way to prevent this?

Now some potential bugs I have noticed..

- I seem to be able to be promoted about 4 times by the Bonaire Governor before even completing any quests.. Is this a bug or is it because I have done something for the Dutch that I am un-aware of?

- Also with the Bonaire Governor, I seem to be able to marry his daughter without even asking her.. I talked to her once after the promotion to 2E Lieutenant or whatever it was, and the dialogue options were something like, "I would like you to be here when I return" and "I must leave" and so I chose the simple goodbye option, then talked to her again and then I had the dialogue choice "I am too busy to spend any time with you" or something, which sounded like a divorce lol.

- I try to fast travel to my ship but most of the time my ship doesn't show up in the menu and I have to fast travel to another ship in my fleet and THEN to my flag ship.. is this a bug or normal?

- When trading and the price per item goes over 1000 gold, the price just displays as (1) for the remainder of the trade, unless I drop the quantity back down so the price is below 1000 per item.

- Also with trading, sometimes the game lets me buy a considerable amount more than my cargo hold will allow, so my cargo then goes into the minus (e.g. Space -58)

- When I am robbed by a NPC that talks to me, and I ask for my money back, I only receive 1 gold back.

- I was in the Jungle in Bonaire and noticed that the Moon drops well below the horizon of the mountains/trees

- Also in Bonaire, while searching for the treasure that Artois Voysey told me about, inside the cave with the Gold veins and water I noticed a strange reflection bug in both the water and while looking at the gold veins/rocks.
It seems to be reflecting the date/time and also other stuff on the interface.

- On Cayman I left my ship and when the port loaded I had this strange bug where a NPC seemed to be talking to me but there was no way to exit out of the dialogue and the dialogue interface stayed like that even when traveling back to my ship..

Cheers - I understand some of this stuff is present in the normal version of the game too but hope some of this information helps you guys in adding things to the next patch.. :)

Ahoy true_blue,

I'll try to answer what I think I know, but since I'm not the great expert here meyself, I guess you'd want to read some other answers, too.

Some questions..
- Firstly I took a ship hunting quest from Jamaica but forgot to do it before sailing to another island and when I came back I can't find the ship they want me to sink, or any enemy ship for that matter.. what can I do about that??

I don't know what can be done. I usually give quests of this sort (ship hunting, escort, or transport for merchants) a top priority and do nothing else until this is finished. This seems to work well.

- I also wonder if my officers can wear armour if I leave it in their inventory?

I think they can. At least, with some officers you even see the armor when they wear ist. This is a question of the model of the officers, it is not seen at all of them. But since it is seen at some, I think it works for them all.

- How come all the skeletons are replaced with pirates in the mod?

I guess this is to make the game more relistic looking. In historical carribean, there were of course no walking skeletons ;-)
I think you'd find some of them in the "hoist the colours quest", about Captain Jack Sparrow and his beloved Pearl.

- I seem to be able to be promoted about 4 times by the Bonaire Governor before even completing any quests.. Is this a bug or is it because I have done something for the Dutch that I am un-aware of?

Yes, I think there is. Most likely, you sunk or captured some ships of enemies of the dutch, and the governor may have heard about that. Sinking pirates all governors like.

I hope this helps. About your other questions, I don't know anything, hopefully one of the other here does.

Armor on officers indeed does work.

The skeletons and mummies have been limited to storyline and quest use only, but will not be randomly encountered anymore for realism's sake.

The time jumps are because it didn't really work out to have the time pass smoothly on land, so we had to do it in blocks.
It isn't quite realistic, but at least there is some time progression.

Don't have time to answer any more issues right now. Sorry. :(

Ship hunting: When you left the island you broke the quest. Now you have a useless entry in your questbook.

Not only your officers, but your crew can wear armor. Your crew can also fire single shot firearms.

Pickpockets: I hatem. They never give my money back so I killum, then the whole town turns on me. So I turn pickpockets off in advanced options.

Check your relations after every ship battle.

You are not getting married. You will know if you ever get to where you can get married.

You can not fast travel to your ship? that is a bug in your game.

Yes, this game is remarkably bad at arithmetic.

Killum and take it all.

The moon is a well known feature of the game. Fixing it is item #289 on my to do list.

You have a corrupted install with many problems including missing textures. This program has built in memory leaks, so it is a good idea to restart the game periodically. Also, this program fragments your hard drive. You need to do a really good optimization and defrag. And then start a program of weekly defrags. I have a program running full time that monitors my hard drives and automatically defrags them, and I still sometimes have problems.

Thanks guys.. knew I shoulda re-loaded an earlier save and sunk that ship but its far too late now :(Is it possible that I might find the same ship by chance at a French port or something later in the game and be able to sink her?

Corrupt install? Hmm I made a fresh install before installing New Horizons.. and its on my fully optimized solid state drive too but i'll try defragging and see what happens.. what is that program you use to monitor your hard drives, Hylie?
Not too worried about memory leaks as I have 16gb ram with my pagefile on my SSD but yeah I do restart the game every couple of hours anyways just for good measure.

I have some other problems but can't remember them right now so will be posting here again when I can recall!

EDIT: For some reason while I am in Bridgetown port I can't fast travel anywhere, the game says something is about to happen here.
And In Speightstown or whatever you call it (Oxbay), If I walk past this one house door to the left of the port gate I hear a groaning voice then I am inside the dungeon... Its nowhere near the dungeon entrance near the shipyard, so I am not sure what the hell is meant to cause this.

Thanks guys!

It is Smart Defrag 2 by Iobit.

There was a game I played a decade ago that was really bad about fragging a drive. I would defrag, play the game, and then defrag again and it was like a bomb had gone off in the HD. POTC isn't that bad. I can go maybe a week before the game starts going bad.

cool ok.. well it should be easy to setup windows to defrag after you exit POTC. But I think a scheduled defrag on the SSD should suffice which I have weekly anyway.. not that SSD's need it but it can't hurt.

Update: About that Governor's daughter marriage thing.. I have checked it on another Dutch island and again she gives me the option to either make pleasant conversation or marry her.. if I make pleasant conversation and then talk to her again, I only have two options.. either say it was nice to see her and I must be on my way OR that I am sorry but I am not around enough to be a good husband to her anymore. I don't get any option to marry or anything..

Also when I chose the option to marry her as soon as I first met her, she said her suitor is jealous and we must duel, so then the guy arrives and combat starts but then the Governors bodyguard or whatever he is shoots the guy and the battle ends. Lol.

This happened in Philipsburg / St martin

EDIT:
Ok now it seems that the Dutch promotion thing was bugged afterall because after accepting the promotions, my ship has been replaced with one called Wapen Van Boorn which is a Escort Ship and my main ship is not berthed either.. its completely lost :(

Hi therey,

I think this happens when being promoted to the rank of captain or somthing comparable (don't know the dutch title). And yes, there is a ship given to you then. When I played the "hoist the colors" campaign and worked for the english, it was a surprise class frigate, which is not so bad.
I don't know about other periods.

Edit:
I don't think this is a bug, but a feature, and means that you get the new ship as a reward for your service.Although, it could of course turn out that the reward ship might be worse than your original one. This may be espcially the case, when you allready had a decent ship.

Perhaps the best thing to do is always, save often so you can get back to a save game. Then pethaps capture a small ship, put it in your first ship slot, and then get promoted.

Aye, you got the reward ship. But in a vey bugged manner. :wp

When you attain a certain rank with a nation, any nation, you will be given a reward ship and an officer. It is always a good idea to save just before talking to the governor because the reward ship thing does not always go according to plan, as you have noticed. You have to have a slot open for it or you will lose your old ship as it replaces yours and yours moves to another slot. Sometimes you lose your ship anyway as one ship simply vanishes.
So try again from an early save.

yep i loaded an earlier save cheers.. I thought about it being a reward ship but then thought it can't be because I have done a LOT more for the English than I have for the Dutch but haven't received a ship from them yet.. also why would it be called an Escort Ship??
I got it when I was promoted to 1E Lieutenant.. I am a Commander with the English though.

I will berth my ships and see if I can get the promotion without losing any.. then sell the pile of junk and get my ships back lol.

Oh and yes my ships are much better.. I have a Royal Man O War and 2 3rd rate Battleships plus a Fast Galleon.

What is the officer cap with New Horizons? Currently have 13 and others assigned to my other Captains.

Cheers for your help guys!

The reward ship code will be disabled in the next modpack update to prevent such issues.

When fast travel doesn't work because "something is going to happen", that should be because of some quest trigger.

The falling down into the dungeon in Speightstown thing is a trap and a joke that Couchcaptain Charles put in ages ago.

Be sure to have a look through Options>Advanced Options and see if there are any settings that you want to tweak.
You can enable/disable/tweak rather a lot of game options to give yourself the type of game that you like.

Cheers - Yeah I have looked in the advanced options but assumed most of it would require a new game?

But about the fast travel.. nothing quest related has happened there and it does it in other towns too now..

Hmm maybe you can add something like a message saying "You have fallen into a dark hole" when that dungeon joke thing is triggered?
Just to let people know its not some weird glitch lol.

Cheers!

I have vague memories from years ago that when "something is going to happen" something did happen. Like the Black Pearl appearing and pirates running around. But that no longer happens, but the code is still there. So a little walking is needed. It's a good excuse to talk to people and get goodies like throwing knives, ether bottles, and treasure quests.
