A few new quest problems

Hey, all. Long time, no post.

I'm having some problems with a few quests and I hoped someone might advise me before a run down a bunch of tangents.

First, in a tavern I just picked up a female Claire Larrouse and headed to Oxbay. Once I get there, I get transported to the area where the Oxbay mines are. I have no choice but to fight a bunch of English soldiers along with Larrouse. She started it, BTW.

Anyway, after that, I'm not sure what to do. In the original POTC version, I think I managed to get the gold somehow. In this build version, I have two options. I can defy Larrouse and she doesn't like it and fights me. I kill her and then I can go to the lighthouse where my ships(and her's) are. Then I can take over her former ship.

The second option is to go along with Larrouse to attempt to take over some gold convoy. But I'm not sure what to do or where to go. I went to the lighthouse beach and found my ships, but it wasn't clear what I was supposed to do next. Once I set to sea, there isn't any obvious enemy to attack and my quest book doesn't say anything useful.

Any suggestions?

This is turning into a long-ass post, but I still have Part II to go.

I'm doing the "Strange Things" quest and I am at the point where your supposed to go to Greenford and find and talk to the Red-Robed animist "Teacher" in the Greenford prison. No matter what I do, once I enter the prison, the "fight" music is playing. I mean, the music that they play when you are in the jungle and run into some bandits and your character pictures are blinking red and you HAVE to fight ... that's happening. If the "Teacher" is there, I can't talk to him. He is stuck doing the scared/cowardly animation that happens sometimes.

To sum up, I can't get the "Teacher" to talk to me and suspect my quest is bugged. Can I fix it? Did I do something in the wrong order?

Well, this post has gone on long enough. I haven't explained things that well, but I hope someone knows what the hell I'm babbling about and has some advice.

Thanks.

I searched a bit and found out that I was doing the Larrouse quest wrong. So for the first part of my post - fugetaboutit. I gotta say, though, there are pretty much no clues as to what you are supposed to be doing on that quest.

Now, regarding my "Strange Things" problems, I did some more searching too. Someone said that in the prison when the "battle music" starts I should kill "the" guard and then I can talk to the "Teacher". I wasn't able to use my weapon in the prison. It always said something like, "Hmm. Bad idea."

I'm still looking for advice/help.

I think that this would help kill the guards:

1. Edit PROGRAM\console.c and put following line:<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->LAi_LocationFightDisable(&Locations[FindLocation("Greenford_prison")], false);<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->before <!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->LogIt("Executed Console");<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->
2. Start your saved game, and before you enter Greenford prison press F12 to execute console.
3. Enter prison and check situation - you should be able to use your sword now.

Are you sure this quest was enabled in stock PotC? I think this was a disabled unfinished quest, perhaps part of old Danielle main quest, in which Clair Larrouse was a man. It became 'Claire' with the Builds, and a special model was made for her.

I don't recall having played this quest for long, the last time was maybe in Build 12 - and I think I had some trouble understanding what you exactly needed to do.

About strange things running in the Archipelago... I recently discovered that in stock PotC you could free the teacher and escort him back to isla Muelle after a dreadfull fight in Greenford ! Man, was it funny ! The Teacher must have been blind, otherwise he would have seen I had a Maltese Knight fighting with me. I hope this option wasn't disabled in the Builds ?

pirate_kk,

I'll give that a try. I assume that after I've done that, I should remove those lines of code. Right?

a simple virtual sailor,

I can't be sure since it was so long ago, but I'm pretty sure I completed a Larrouse quest where Larrouse was male in the original game. Then again, it may have been an early build. But for sure, I completed a Larrouse quest and he was a dood.

I'm off to try the console trick.

Right

About Larrouse quest being in stock PotC... what version of PotC did you have ? I had Ubisoft one and it is possible than in this one a few quests had been disabled for strange reasons.

a simple virtual sailor,

I'm not sure what you mean by version, but maybe the Bethesda version is what I have.

Unfortunately, the code I put in that file doesn't help me. It does allow me to draw my sword and kill whomever I please, but the problem is that I can't talk to the "Teacher". The "battle music" is still playing and when I approach Teach, he does the cowering in fear bit. I can kill him too, but that doesn't advance the quest.

What is wrong with this frikken quest? A while back a had to revert back to a much earlier saved game because of some other problem with this quest. I don't think I'm willing to do that again.

To shed some more light, here is what I have been doing. I get to Greenford, I talk to the barkeep at the tavern and he says that the Teacher is in the prison. I go to the prison and the battle music is going. When I have played previous builds I don't think this happened. OK, I can talk to the guard behind the desk and there are two options I think. I can tell him the sad story about kidnapped children and he'll let me go in. That's what I have been doing. The other option is to go back to Redman and get a letter from the priest. I haven't tried that yet because I doubt it will fix anything since the battle music is playing as soon as I enter the prison. I guess I'll give it a try now since I don't know what else to do.

Is there a way through console commands to turn off the battle music in the prison at this point? I think that might get me past this mess.

I figured out how to get around my "Strange Things" problem in the Greenford prison. Actually, I read about to solution in a post here, but I had to do alot of searching. I never got around the problems with being in combat mode, but I was able to talk to the animist in prison by sort of sneaking up on him real fast and talking before he started doing the cowering in fear thing.

Of course now I have run into another problem with this screwy quest. This one seems to have several posts/comments about it, but nothing exactly like the problem I'm having. At the final stages of the quest, I go to the Isla Muelle shore area to investigate the animist lair. I kill all of the bastards and then the leader and when I search the leader's body, I get a dialog that says something like "The prison doors are unlocked. No I need to save Padre Dominguez." I go in to rescue him* and when I do, his dialog has nothing to do with the animists. It's the same generic dialog that you get when you talk to him earlier in the game.

In the past when I played this mission, IIRC, I got a dialog where he says I still need to save the children or something. Then he would end up back in the church and everything was peachy keen-like.

Does anyone what I can do to fix this glich?

-cwineman

*Actually, I found that sometimes the Padre wasn't even there. At this stage in the quest, if I went to Isla Muelle port instead of directly to the animist lair something would get screwed up. After I finally did go to the animist lair he was not in his jail cell. I guess he either broke out or died because I took too long.

I haven't figured out a solution to my "Strange Things" problem.

Now, I've run into a bug in the quest where you need to find the admiral's son. I'm at the point where you need to return to Isla Muella and talk to the admiral since the son has possibly returned there. When I talk to the admiral, the game hangs. The music keeps going, but my PC becomes non-responsive.

Unless anyone can recommend a fix for either of the problems, I think I'll finally have to bail on this game. It stinks after coming so long, but these broken/bugged quests are killing me.

I appreciate any help that y'all might give.
