The Kapitein of Kralendijk

Note: this quest is not available to naval officers. It is also not available at all in "Early Explorers" period because you can't visit Saint Martin to begin the quest. (Besides, in "Early Explorers", Kralendijk has a different name and is Spanish, so the quest makes no sense.)

    Introduction(top)

In Philipsburg tavern, look for Willem Voigt, who is sitting at a table on the lower floor. Talk to him. Accept his proposition and you will automatically follow him upstairs. (Willem does not trust naval officers, so if you are one, he won't offer the proposition. Should you lose your naval status, you can return and try again.)

Upstairs, accept Willem Vogt's proposition. This triggers a sidequest "Fleecing a Governor". Leave the tavern.

If you try to leave town through either the land gate or the port gate, Willem is arrested by a guard. If you leave through the land gate, you will need to bribe the guard. If you try to leave through the tunnel to Marigot, Willem refuses to follow. In any case, "Fleecing a Governor" ends - the only purpose of this quest is to give you the idea.

Shortly after you lose Willem, you have a choice to try to follow his plan by yourself, or not. You are warned that going ahead will ruin your status with Holland. If you choose to proceed anyway, the proper "Kapitein of Kralendijk" quest begins.

    Get a uniform(top)

In any Dutch tavern, find a soldier. You may need to leave and re-enter a few times before one appears. Talk to him and offer to share a bottle of rum with him. You teleport upstairs, he falls down drunk and you steal his uniform.

    Upgrade the uniform(top)

The tailor of Kralendijk will convert the uniform to that of an officer, but only if you're authorised to wear an officer's uniform. You need forged papers to prove you are. If you have completed the "Help the Church" quest and did not kill Yedam Kinne, you can visit him again and get him to forge the papers. Otherwise go to the Buccaneers Camp on Hispaniola and talk to the tavern keeper, who will tell you about Pablo Escriva.

Pay the forger and wait the required time. You can stay in a tavern or go off and do other things. The questbook will tell you when it is time to collect the papers.

Go to the Kralendijk tailor and get the uniform upgraded.

    Arrest the governor of Kralendijk(top)

Wear the new uniform. (It's available as an outfit through the usual outfit-choosing interface.) Go to the Kralendijk tavern and find a soldier. Talk to him. If he has recognised you as an enemy then you will need "Leadership" skill at least 6 to bluff him successfully. If the bluff is successful, your officers will leave you. You'll get them back later.

Outside the tavern, talk to the soldier. Go to the townhall. Talk to the governor. (You are still in uniform, aren't you? This won't work if you're not!) You'll automatically talk to the soldier and take the money. Leave the townhall. Leave the town. Leave Bonaire. If you never return, you'll get away with it.

    Return to Kralendijk(top)

If you do return to Kralendijk, you'll be recognised and arrested. You can try to fight your way out of it or you can surrender, in which case you go to the townhall for trial. You're sent to prison, where you meet Willem Vogt again. After two months, you're pardoned and released. The governor may not want to talk to you immediately, but after you sail to another island and then return, he will be back to normal.
