    Meet the Researcher(top)

In Santo Domingo town centre, find the researcher's house. It is somewhere near the town hall. Inside, talk to Constantino Avellán. As well as offering to sell you any of the crystal skulls normally to be found in the game, he wants you to find a special one, an amber skull. Accept the job.

    Find the Caribs(top)

Sail to Guadeloupe. You can land at the port and walk past the plantation, go straight through the first jungle area and into the next area which has a large rock in the middle. Or land at the beach, go past the fort into the jungle, then turn right to go to that area. (If you've ever been to Guadeloupe lighthouse, you'll have passed through this area to get there.) Go to the right of the big rock. A group of Indians will attack you. After a few seconds, you are overpowered and teleport to the chief's hut.

The Caribs want you to get the amber skull for them. If you have any officers with you when you're captured, one of them is taken hostage, otherwise you've been poisoned. Growling Bear, one of their warriors, joins you.

    To Martinique(top)

Sail to Martinique. Land at Octopus Bay. (If you go to the port, you may be attacked, and you certainly won't be allowed through the gate into town.) On the beach, Growling Bear leads you to the far end of the beach, where you'll enter a cave. Growling Bear warns you that you'll be crossing a dangerously weak bridge, and warns you again when you get to the bridge.

Save game before you try to cross the bridge.

Stay to the side when you cross the bridge! If you walk across the middle, you'll fall through a weak point and die. Watch Growling Bear - he knows where it is safe to walk.

    Find the Skull(top)

After the bridge, walk through one area of jungle and into the next. Growling Bear goes off to find the skull, then returns. Go back the way you came.

You will be attacked when you return to the first jungle area.

Back at the bridge, Growling Bear reminds you that it is weak - again, watch where he goes and stay to the same side.

    A Rival(top)

When you return to the cave, you will meet Lewis Vickers, who demands you give him the skull and threatens to fire a cannon at the cave if you don't. After you give him the skull, he leaves, then fires the cannon anyway. A large rock now blocks your way. Growling Bear will help you move it.

TRAP: it is possible that you have killed Growling Bear before returning to the cave. If so, you had better have an officer with you. You can not move the rock by yourself, so if you are alone, you are stuck!

Assuming that you moved the rock out of the way, helped by either Growling Bear or your officer, return to your ship. Fight the Ark Raider, Lewis Vickers' ship. If you don't retrieve the amber skull from Vickers' body, one of your crew will retrieve it for you.

    Back to the Caribs(top)

Sail to Guadeloupe and go to the same jungle area where you met the Caribs. Look for Chief Kicking Bear - he's the one with the red head-dress. Talk to him. If you give him the skull, he releases the officer he took hostage, or cures your poison if he didn't take a hostage originally. He will also go away, return, and give you a special tomahawk.

Or you can try to keep the skull and fight the Caribs. If you win the fight and you had been poisoned, you get the cure automatically. If one of your officers was taken hostage, you may need to be quick to prevent the hostage from being killed.
If you run away before the fight is over, you won't get either the hostage or the cure for the poison.

    Return to the Researcher (top)

Sail to Santo Domingo and go to the house of Constantino Avellán. If you gave the skull to the Caribs and got the tomahawk, he will offer to buy it, for a lot more than you'll get if you sell it to a trader or store. If you kept the skull and won the fight, he will buy it from you. If you kept the skull, ran away from the fight and are still poisoned, he will trade the skull for a cure to the poison.
