This walkthrough is for Build 14 Beta 4 it may differ from other versions of the game
NOTE: (If you choose the occupation Smuggler – when you start the game you will have this quest in the Quest Book and some Opium in your Inventory – you can smuggle Opium by talking to the Smuggler in the Tavern if you want – BUT you cannot complete this Quest – to do this Quest you must work for a Governor & be a Naval Officer by occupation or have a Letter of Mark
Beta 4-1 - Only Jean Lafitte as a smuggler will have this quest in the Quest Book and some Opium in your Inventory when you start the game.
– You can, of course, be a Smuggler by occupation and get a Letter of Mark , then you can start this Quest).
You must be a Naval Officer – or have a Letter of Mark to start this quest.
Go and talk to a Governor belonging to the nation you are working for.
Ask About Smuggling - and get book of Governors Orders – QB Update
Then if you don’t have any contraband goods – go and get some and follow the normal Smuggling routine
See:- Smuggling
The Governors Orders will help you if you are caught by soldiers/coastguards (only those of your own Country) – but if you use them the Smugglers will be less friendly towards you.
When you have completed a normal Smuggling run – Go back to the Governor and give him your report - tell him you have “something he will want to see” – QB Update & relations improved.
Continue Smuggling until some of the smugglers on the beach are killed (by coastguards or you) – search their bodies – eventually you will find some Opium on one of them - or go to Port Royale, Jamaica and buy some opium at the Opium den ( opposite the Blacksmith ).
WARNING:– If you kill any Smugglers they will be less friendly towards you.
WARNING: – Once you buy Opium in the Opium Den then Fast Travel in ALL Ports & Towns is Disabled
Beta 4-1: - Fast Travel disabled if you are carrying Opium - restored ( have to change location for it to be restored ) when you get rid of it ( sell to Buyer - have it taken by a soldier - or use it )
Once you have some Opium – talk to the Smuggler in a tavern about it. – Given a Buyers List and a second Smuggling Book. – QB Update
If you ask the Smuggler in the tavern about the effects of Opium – told to go and see a medical man (Apothecary in Bridgetown – QB Update)
SEE BELOW - For the Effects of Using Opium
When you have Buyer List – take it to the Governor – QB Update & reward.
Now check the Buyers List - go and find one of them and talk to them – QB Update (New Quest – Smuggling Opium for ……. )
You have 2 months to bring them the amount of Opium they want.Sail to Port Royale, Jamaica – go to the Opium Den (opposite the Blacksmith)
Buy the Opium from one of the people in the Opium Den – QB Update
WARNING: – Once you buy Opium in the Opium Den then Fast Travel in ALL Ports & Towns is Disabled
BUG :- In Beta 4 - The Fast Travel is restored after 2-3 months pass ( I think this is a bug, but am not sure at which point in the quest it is supposed to be restored )
FIXED in Beta 4-1: - Now Fast Travel is disabled if you are carrying Opium - restored ( have to change location for it it be restored ) when you get rid of it ( sell to Buyer - have it taken by a soldier - or use it )
WARNING :- While carrying opium in Towns & Ports some Soldiers can challenge you – if they are the same Nation as you - then you can use the Governors Orders to deal with them – if not either Fight or give up the Opium.
When you have the Opium – go back to the Opium Buyer and give them the Opium – QB Update – General Quest Closed.
Go back and talk to the Governor – give him report – QB Update.
Exit Townhall – then enter again – talk to Governor – ask “Have you had time to look at the reports I made” - QB Update
END of Quest for the Moment.
If you have some Opium & use it the following can happen:
Reduces your ability to “Block” when sword fighting – this effect lasts for some time then wears off.
The following effects are random:-
