    This is a list of the abilities that the player can add to their character ( and their officers ) to customize or enhance their abilities. It tells you the requirements for each Ability.

    To access the Abilities screen Press F2 then on the Character Screen click on the Abilities Box near the bottom.


    General Guidelines (top)

    Padlocked Abilities - not yet available - have to be unlocked by doing something, or getting something (book).

    Black And White Abilities - available but not yet acquired by the player

    Coloured Abilities - abilities acquired by the player

    Officers can contribute ship (group) abilities to the player - but NOT Personal abilities.

    Ticked Abilities – Group - these are being contributed by an officer ( even if the player does not have it )

    Ticked Abilities - Personal – these have been acquired by the player

    If the Player does not want the Abilities "Locked" or for them to cost more than 1 point - this can be changed in the PROGRAM \ InternalSettings.h file here:-

    Basic Defence

    • Ability Points Needed = 1

    Advanced Defence

    • Need Basic Defence Ability
    • Ability Points Needed = 2
    • Find a book to unlock Ability ( Advanced Blocking Techniques )

    Toughness

    • Need Advanced Defence Ability
    • Ability Points Needed = 2
    • The highwaymen in the jungle can teach this to you ( go and talk with some of them to unlock this Ability)

    Improved Critical Hit

    • Ability Points Needed = 2

    Professional Fencer

    • Need Advanced Defence Ability & Improved Critical Hit
    • Ability Points Needed = 2
    • Finish highest sword training with your crew on deck

    Rush

    • Ability Points Needed = 2
    • Disabled in Realistic and Iron Man mode

    Gunman

    • Ability Points Needed = 1

    Expert Marksman

    • Need Gunman Ability
    • Ability Points Needed = 3
    • Complete a fetch quest for a gunsmith
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Professional Gunman

    • Need Gunman Ability
    • Ability Points Needed = 2
    • Find book to unlock Ability: (Don't Look in the Barrel)
    • Player Minimum Level 15

    Gun Fighter

    • Need - Professional Gunman - Basic Defence - Iron Will Abilities
    • Ability Points Needed = 1
    • This is a Special Ability for the Woodes Rogers Story

    Effective Potions

    • Ability Points Needed = 3
    • DO a Fetch quest for the Apothecary
    • OR do the Mysterious Plants side quest
    • Player Minimum Level 15

    Poison Reststance

    • Ability Points Needed = 3
    • Player Minimum Level 10

    Ship (Group) Abilities (top)

    Maneuverability

    • Ability Points Needed = 1
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Speed Increase

    • Ability Points Needed = 2
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Club Hauling

    • Need Maneuverability Ability
    • Ability Points Needed = 2
    • You can get this from a captain of an enemy ship if you are civilized towards him
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Sense Fairway

    • Need Maneuverability Ability & Speed Increase Ability
    • Ability Points Needed = 2
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Storm Helmsman

    • Need Maneuverability Ability & Speed Increase Ability
    • Ability Points Needed = 2
    • Player Minimum Level 20
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Sea Wolf

    • Need Sense Fairway & Storm Helmsman Ability
    • Ability Points Needed = 3
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Basic Ship Defence

    • Ability Points Needed = 1

    Advanced Ship Defence

    • Need Basic Ship Defence Ability
    • Ability Points Needed = 3
    • Find a book to unlock this Ability ( Book of Bouncing Balls)
    • Player Minimum Level 10
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Professional Ship Defence

    • Need Advanced Ship Defence Ability
    • Ability Points Needed = 4
    • Player Minimum Level 15
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Fast Reload

    • Ability Points Needed = 2

    Pre-reloading

    • Need Fast Reload Ability
    • Ability Points Needed = 2
    • You can get this from a captain of an enemy ship if you are civilized towards him
    • Disabled in Realistic and Iron Man mode

    Increased Ship Damage

    • Ability Points Needed = 2
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Increased Sail Damage

    • Ability Points Needed = 2
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Increased Crew Damage

    • Ability Points Needed = 2
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Critical Shot

    • Need - Increased Ship Damage - Increased Sail Damage - Increased Crew Damage
    • Ability Points Needed = 1
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Increased Volley Range

    • Ability Points Needed = 1
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Professional Cannoneer

    • Need Fast Reload - Critical Shot - Increased Volley Range
    • Ability Points Needed = 2
    • Find a book to unlock this Ability ( Don't Shoot the Messanger)
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Long Range Boarding

    • Ability Points Needed = 3
    • You can get this from a captain of an enemy ship if you are civilized towards him
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Musket Volley

    • Need Professional Gunman & Long Range Boarding Abilities
    • Ability Points Needed = 1

    Master of Boarding

    • Need Long Range Boarding Ability
    • Ability Points Needed = 3
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Instant Boarding

    • Need Professional Fencer & Master of Boarding
    • Ability Points Needed = 3
    • Disabled in Realistic and Iron Man mode

    Landing Party

    • Ability Points Needed = 4
    • Gain a governor's trust to enable this Ability. - need to be Commander Rank in Navy - or Knight Rank as Privateer - or Famous Pirate Rank with Pirates
    • Player Minimum Level 20

    Emergency Repairs

    • Ability Points Needed = 3

    Quick Repairs

    • Need Emergency Repairs Ability
    • Ability Points Needed = 4
    • Help the shipyard when it needs materials
    • Disabled in Iron Man mode

    Cooking Lessons

    • Ability Points Needed = 2

    High Stakes

    • Ability Points Needed = 1
    • Player Minimum Level 8
    • This allows you to have higher bets while gambling. - You can also gamble with coastguards to get their patrol schedule.

    Master of Disguise

    • Ability Points Needed = 2

    Evade Coast Guard

    • Ability Points Needed = 1
    • Find Book of Patrol Schedules on dead coastguards body

    Advanced Smuggling

    • Need Evade Coast Guard - Basic Commerce - Master of Disguise Abilities
    • Ability Points Needed = 2

    Basic Commerce

    • Ability Points Needed = 2
    • Finish a convoy( Escort a Merchant) quest from the tavern

    Advanced Commerce

    • Need Basic Commerce
    • Ability Points Needed = 4
    • Need to Help the Tailor when he needs materials

    Trustworthy

    • Need Basic Commerce & Advanced Commerce Abilities
    • Ability Points Needed = 2
    • Gain a governor's trust to enable this Ability. - need to be a Junior Lieutenant in the Navy - or a Commander as Privateer

    Land Owner

    • Need Basic Commerce
    • Ability Points Needed = 1
    • Gain a governor's trust to enable this Ability. - need to be a Commodore in the Navy - or a Junior Lieutenant as Privateer

    Shared Experience

    • Ability Points Needed = 2
    • Player Minimum Level 10

    Iron Will

    • Ability Points Needed = 2

    Fire Ship

    • Ability Points Needed = 1
    • Player Minimum Level 20
