Who am I attacking?

Sorry again mates for me ignorance, but how can I tell what I am going to be attacking and how can I avoid starting a battle in the midst of the conflict? I want to engage other ships but often I end up fighting 3 other ships instead of just one. Is there a way from the world map to see what you will be facing? Plus starting in the middle of a battle with little time to prepare is driving me nuts! I've rammed friendly vessels twice because I started so close to them. If you initiate the combat you receive a short report on what you are likely to be facing and, usually, the option to break contact if it loks to hairy.

The approach you took to the engagement and the proximity to the other vessel on the map dictates the start posiiton in the battle. I usually try to get myself setup already crossing the T. Doesn't guarantee having the weather gauge but helps getting some good broadsides in.

Sounds like you aren't running the Build 12 modpack. In the stock game, you don't know what enemies you'll be facing and you will be transferred into the middle of the battle sometimes. In the Build 12, it works quite better. If you don't have the modpack, you should get it from the main PiratesAhoy! site.

I tried getting the post build 12 mod from the link on Pieter's sig and it just showed a blank screen, is there anywhere else to get it from?
