What A Shame - Crashing Issue Corrupts Game

Davey Jones Jr.

Landlubber
I should have learned my lesson years ago when dealing with any software with Akella's name attached to it. The concept was great (I enjoyed the more realistic play over Sid Meyer's Port Royal, etc.) but the software performance is always an issue. I am using Windows 7 - 64 bit with maximum ram and loaded the game outside of either of the Window's Program Files (Of course, initially StarForce wiped out my software and forced me to completely reload Windows twice until I found the software "crack".) I finally loaded the game and added the "Super MOD" in the appropriate order but continue to run into issues. At some point several months into "game time" it crashes to desktop and after I restart and load the game the weirdness begins. I arrive in port with all of my fighters missing. If I return to the ship and dock once more the fighters return. From that point on the same thing occurs at all ports and, additionally, all of the indicators for missions over the heads of characters no longer appear. If I question a character directly the they will offer a mission or credit me with completion of same.

I have returned to earlier saved games and have also begun new careers, but the same results occur. Just as I had enjoyed "Age of Sail" games and such, it's just a damn shame Akella and/or MOD folks couldn't come up with some coding to fix this visually stunning and potentially fantastic game.

I don't have much hope and will probably end up trashing this game for good, but has anyone any potential solution(s) to these issues?

Removing the file called "options" from your main game folder is always worth a try.
Sometimes that gets corrupted, causing all sorts of bizarre effects.
Removing it will reset any settings to default, so put your preferences back afterwards.

Also remove/backup as many savegames as you can so there aren't too many actually in the game.

No guarantee that will solve it, but it can't hurt and may help.

Where did your copy of the game? AOP is now available DRM free on GOG.com, no crack required : Sea Dogs: Caribbean Tales on GOG.com

There is also an updated version of the Super MOD, which we do not officially support as we did not create it, You can find that on ModDB here : Age of Pirates: Historical Immersion Supermod

I would suggest making sure that you get the vanilla game working properly before adding any mods. Also, please keep in mind that this game was originally designed to run on completely different hardware and software over a decade ago, so there are bound to be some issues.
