stuck again (campaign to panama quest)

Hi mateys,

I've successfully taken Panama and now need the key to the chest in the governor's room, which is kept by the garrison's commander. Henry Morgan suggests i should look for him at the last battle place or at the fort.
I've browsed both locations many times now and just can't find the garrison commander (or the key). Can anyone help ?

the fort go all the way to the dungeon right on the left hand side of the desk (facing it) the key is on the desk.

What about the chest you have to find after that though? There's supposed to be a chest full of gold just outside the fortress walls, and I found one (facing the wall, following it to the right and you'll find it right as it touches the cliff face), but there's no gold in it... please tell me that it's not some sort of event trigger that I missed, because that would set be back to the stone age timewise (not to mention about 3 million gold)... obviously there are people who finished this quest, so if anyone could break the bad news to me (bad, as I fear that's the only chest I've found so far), thanks heh

I won't say that I'm brilliant, or even an exceptionally smart guy. But never before in my life have I been so flabbergasted by my own stupidity. The chest was the right chest, and it was empty for a reason of course, but I couldn't know that because I forgot to save after fiding the damn key to the first chest... i.e. In my head I was farther along the quest than I was in reality. I would never never leave anyone bereft of a perfectly good opportunity to laugh at my expense... *hangs head in shame*
