Strange Problem (spoiler?)

Can quests be completed out of order?

I met up with Danielle. I had 3 ships, 2 line ships and 1 galleon.
we head to the lighthouse in search of the old man, and determine that the next move is to attack Greenford fort.

I head in to the cove and naturally get nailed 3 or 4 times in a row...on my last run, I noticed lots of English ships attacking me as well, so I decide to exit world map while still at sea, but in sight of land. My thought is to deal with the English ships first, then hit the fort.

I notice a small group with 2 Man of War in it which I attack. I capture 1 MOW and then proceed to sink the rest.

Now I have serious firepower.

I head back to the lighthouse to re group. Then off to QC for some ship repairs. Then back to Greenford to attack the fort.
I park right under the fort and start balsiting away.
I am nearly out of crew and heavily damaged, but I win, and the game askes me to land troops. I do, and we battle the soldiers through the fort and I win that as well.

This is where it gets screwy....

I moor at the port and fight about 6 soldiers, killing them all. I head in the town of Greenford, and it's totally empty. Danielle is no where around, nor is anyone else.
I visit the prison and it's empty as well....

I head back to sea, stopping at the light house again, Here comes Danielle saying that we should attack the fort....

OK, let's try that again. Off we go, the fort is already defeated, so I moor at the pier and enter the town. Now I get challenged with numerous soldiers and I see Danielle fighting in the street ahead of me.

We defeat the soldiers and head to the prison, where the old man is, we get him out and head back to the lighthouse. He demands to come with us on our next adventure, and he sets off to translate the tablets.

That's where it gets wierd again. Now, he's just standing outside the lighthouse and Danielle is at the bar in Greenford, but neither of them will speak to me...

I set off for some trades, and even made 500,000 in gold on 1 trip!

But these 2 critical characters will not speak to me.

Anyone know what I Should do next?

Has anyone seen this happen before? THe walkthrough says that after I defeat the fort and capture Greenford, I'm supposed to battle the English including 2 man of war's, but I think I already did that ahead of schedule and now it's gone hay wire.....

Are you running the game with any mods? As I've only heard of similar problems when running with a stock installation of the game.

If you are not using any mods then the only thing that I can suggest is that you go back to a saved game from just before Danielle suggest that you attack Greenford.

If you are using the latest Build then you could diable the Coastraider mod for a while just to ensure that it's not interfering with the quest.
This can be done by changing something in the BuildSettings.h file.
All you do is change the #define AUTOCREATE_CR 1 line to
#define AUTOCREATE_CR 0
And when the quest is over you can change it back.
 
I'm running with the NK full mod, the latest version I think, I just got it about 3 weeks ago...

I'll check the coastrider settting. I recall making an adjustment to that as I was getting frustrated with greetings of 5 or more pirate ships after returning to the Sailing mode from the world mode.

Ok Rotor I can suggest 1 of the following :

- Reload at the point were you fought with english guards at the lighthouse then speak to danellie and choose the 2end option ( why wait lets attack it now ........ ) then sail normally to the fort and continue to the point were you talk to danellie in the tavren , here 1 of your crew shall run and tell you that english fleet is attacking ( 2 battleships + 1 corvette ) . You fight them from your ships and danellie help you from the fort , or ...

- If you have made and save before rescueing the old man from the prison then reload and continue .

About the ships generated system , you can switch off or reduce the number from 6 to 2 ships and even change the percentage of these ships to be pirates or merchantes .

OK, I save ALOT, I was afraid that I actually reached my limit, as I have done before, and deleted the game before Danielle and I go to the Lighthouse.
Fortunately, I saved that exact game. Yeah Me!
I reloaded back to that point and started again. I have a Warship and a Lineship, both at 100% health. Danielle and I are running a few trade routes to build up some cash to see if we can find a Man of War for purchase, or capture another large vessel...

The question I have now is in the actual fort battle. Is it better to drive right up to the beach and blast away or stand off farther?
Also, is there anyway to land troops prior to destroying the fort?

During the last time I did this with the Man o' War, I pretty much parked right on the beach and directed the guns until the game said fort destroyed in which I won thounds of points. THen the game asked if I wanted to land troops, which I did and the battle raged inside the fort with the soldiers....

Can I land troops without destroying the fort?
 
The only way you can land troops is if you get the "burning fort" icon - you get that by destroying the cannons in the fort. Aim for the tops of the walls with CANNONBALLS from far across the bay and you will be able to kill the fort with little damage to your own vessel.
 
By useing 16 culverine and cannonballs you can hit the fort from a distance without taking back fire until you get the msg that the fort is done . Just position your ship before the entrence of the bay then <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" /> BOMBS AWAY ( cannonballs ) . <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
