Special Ships of the Game

Carnavour

Landlubber
During the my travels and I have encountered the following diffrent ships and want to know what they do. If I attack them or leave em.

privateer
grain transport
raiders
smuggler
transprting new governer
trasporting immigrants
military payroll = I think this means I get more gold for taking the ship.

Am I missing any ships?

Thanks

Also if it is and English smuggler and i capture it do the english get mad or glad?

Well, from what I've observed... privateers and raiders attack ships of enemy nations, or in the case of pirates, almost everyone. Smugglers seem content just sailing to port. Governor transports improve the economy of the port they sail into.

Attacking payroll and treasure ships yields the best loot, after which comes merchant shipping. Smugglers have okay loot, although they tend to sail in smaller ships (anybody seen a `galleon-sized` smuggler?). Named pirates are always good for plunder, too.

I don't know how uneconomical it is to attack raiders, because I always welcome food as loot, and during the battles some of your crew gets killed, and this is good for keeping your population down. Heh. Not sure if too much fighting is bad for your health, though. I have generally solid duelling skills and rarely take hits.

It's been my experience that the governments get mad when you attack and/or capture a smuggler of their nation. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> That struck me as kind of odd as well, but who can say? Maybe the governor is the head of the smuggling operation! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Pirate raiders and smugglers can be `hit-or`-miss as far a cash/valuables go. They can be huge payoffs, or next to nothing. The most reliable for $$$ is Treasure ships and Military Payroll.
Grain ships will (naturally) have more food than normal, which can come in handy as well.
Privateers are guys just like you, out to attack their nation's enemies and the nation they sail for will take capturing them personally.
Immigrants boost the population of the town where they land, Troop transport, of course, boosts the troops. New Warships are going to be pirate hunters when they arrive, (you're going to have to fight them sooner or later), and the sinking of a new warship will gain you the respect of the nation's enemies more than a "normal" ship would.
I know I repeated some of the stuff in the previous posts, but I was trying to keep it all straight in my head as well.

I think this really adds to the whole game as well, there is going to be some effect resulting from whatever you do in the game. I like how you can do things in the game that will help to develop/destroy specific ports.

I will occasionally attack a ship of a nation that I am trying to stay on good terms with just because I need more cargo space. I can usually get away with it because by the time I go back to a port of their nation, I've usually attacked one of their enemies and the two actions seem to cancel each other out to some extent.

"Yes, mi'lord, I did take one of England's treasure ships, but in doing so I was enabled to capture Cartagena for his majesty, and that is a veddy, veddy good thing...." <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

You can usually get away with attacking one or two ships of any given nation without too much repercussion, but more than that at they'll turn on you no matter how many of their enemy attack. Given a little time, (leaving them alone, of course) they calm down though.

Amnesty for Fun and Profit.

Sack those rich targets until Scurvy, then get good old Brother Paulo to get that easy amnesty. Of course, you have to find that strategically located Mission, but still they always give you the Amnesty once proposed.

See too many treasure ships, go again and again.
