Some questions about the user interface.

What does that meter indicate? What about the two bars under it. The ones with the numbers. What does this all mean? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
 
Experience (XP).
The first big number shows your experience to date, the next shows the XP required to level up.
The light blue / dark blue bar shows this graphically (it shows how close you are, right now it looks like you're 1/10 of the way there).

I edit a number of config files so that I start out with a certain amount of skill, my favorite weapons, and my custom made Sloop. It's too painful to earn all those points each time you start a new game. I start a new game almost every week. I like to mess around with the settings and all.

Don't get me wrong though, I can and have died before. It's very difficult to kill me in a sword or gun fight. But my little boat is not as strong as I am.

The trick is to attack ships from an angle that they can't fire at you. Move in fast... as fast as you can. Get close, and board them. I almost always board ships that I want to sink. I need to take their cargo since I am not allowed at any ports.

All of my repairs are done at sea... If my single mast should fall, I sail (Okay, I ROW) to QC and ask my pirate buddies for help. I will never give up my Sloop, there is no other like it.

Speaking of unique ships... how can I make a certain ship more rare? For example, I never see the Black Pearl sailing anywere. It truly is one of a kind. I have encountered my Sloop in certain places. If I make it more expensive will it become more rare? What controls where a ship will show up?
 
Heh, I know that feeling. I love my Xebec CT for the same reason, and I hang onto my Lugger CT for a LONG TIME before I trade up. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> The little ships are great, only thing I don't like is not having the cargo space... However that can be solved by having a LARGE chase ship - like a MOW... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
 
Okay, I won't have to start a new game now, will I? If I decide to make some more changes to the ship, like speed and turn rate, will I have to start a new game in order to have the updated ship?
 
I think you should be able to just hit the "I" key to `re-initialize`, and you'll be set. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
 
Wow! I think I made my ship too fast! I'm going 22 k when there is 9 k of wind!
