Some questions about difficulty of the game

Rad

Privateer
As I could register there can be adjusted difficulty in the game now. So I would like to ask what are the practical differences between individual difficulties? And can be this difficulty changed in the course of playing or only before starting new game? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

?!?

That's strange, maybe my build version is out-dated but I can change the difficulty level by talking to my officers.

Change the difficulty level by talking to one of your officers ("About me..." and "I don't feel right in this world") or going through the options menu. Difficulty is the last one in the options menu. You can change at any time, but you can't change difficulty if you don't have a game running.

At higher difficulties you face tougher opponents. They'll have more hit points and generally better weapons. I've got the boarding code adjusted where easiest level the enemy hit points are lower than yours, second difficulty it's about the same as yours, difficulty 3 it's somewhat higher, and I've never even *tried* highest difficulty. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Also, when the governor gives you pirate quests, at higher difficulties you face larger ships. It appears that many captains you meet on the sea are better at higher difficulties.

This way, captain Rad (oups no : 'Name me only Rad, please' <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> ) So this way, Rad :

(talk to an officer)
yes captain?
about me...
yes?
I don't seem to fit in quite right in this world...
What manner of pirate be ye, captain? Right now you're known as .....
-> here you chose what difficulty level you want, at least on my build version (again it's not the newest)

About the difference, I haven't played enought to tell you. If you chose the less difficult, random enemies have normal blade with really poor quality, so they break them really fast and knock out half of your team with there trusty fists, with lots of 'guards, guards, come quiclky' silly sounds. And when you kill them at last, you earn nothing because the few blades that didn't broke are in 'badly_worn' shape.
If you put the hardest difficulty level, enemies come with hundred of Nicolas Sharp saber at the excelent quality level, so you become rich in two or three fights... I can't tell you more.

Thank you all for your information. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

you cant change difictilty unless you start a new game
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
In Age of Pirates you can't, but in the modded Pirates of the Caribbean version you can. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
You can change the difficulty as Hook says by talking to an officer, but you can also do it in the F1>Options menu.

To a simple virtual sailor: The things you describe are caused by my bladedamage mod. If you have any suggestions on how to balance the mod in a better way, please say so. I'm always open to suggestions. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
BTW: What modpack version are you using? In the Build 13 Beta version, blade breaking shouldn't occur very frequently.
