Some odd things - is it Build 13 specific?

hangar18

Landlubber
Been playing B13 (+ update 2) for a week or so and have accumulated over 1m of cash (thanks to the somewhat excessive cash yielded from surrendering captains which I have now fixed this in the code), but have noticed a couple of odd things, these being....

1) I used to approach Governor's to gain cash and rep by sinking pirate ships but now that option no longer appears. They only offer me opportunities to sink English or French ships (whoever they are at war with). Do pirate ships respawn? If not then this might explain it.

2) I've noticed recently that when boarding pirate ships, some crew have no swords and instead are forced to use fists. Didnt happen in the begining. Again has the supply of weapons somehow dwindled over time?

3) This relates to the plot. I'm at the stage where I've hit the intended dead end regarding Rheims which is fine (I have his journal). I've followed the walkthrough and am supposed to talk to someone in a house on Falais de Fleurs that is somewhere between the Port and the Jungle (no offence intended but the walkthrough didnt explain this very well). That person will then talk about the black pearl. I recall doing this part of the plot before without difficulty (on B12 I think) and was just wondering if B13 has somehow blocked the main quest or can someone explain how to continue?

Thanks again for your help.

Try to go in every house, mate - I can't remember but its in one of the areas close to the jungle I think. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

How did you change this exactly? I've read your other post but the answer was not clear to me. Do the Captains have lesser money with a higher or a lower number? Which number have you chosen? What amount of money do you get now?

I've been in every house - I'm questioning whether the house is really on falais de fleurs or another island! Is the walkthrough wrong

To reduce/increase cash do the following:

1. Open internalsettings.h in notepad which is in the POTC folder under the PROGRAM folder
2. Do a search for boarding & capturing and look at the comments on the right - one will say something like cash given by surrendering captains
3. I think the floater is set at 0.01 - if you set it at 0.005 the captains will give half as much cash as normal, if at 0.02 twice as much etc. I set mine at 0.001 (i.e. 1/10th of the default cash) as capturing a ship is reward enough for me, with the cash just being a nice little bonus, nothing more, nothing less. They typically give me about 10,000 to 30,000 in cash now.
4. Save internalsettings.h
5. Play POTC, load up your last save and press "i" to initialise the new cash setting.

Are you using Build 13 or the Build 14 Alpha version? In Build 13 the pirate hunting quests should be limited to pirates only. A new feature in Build 14 Alpha is that sometimes you get to hunt other nation ships as well. In any case: You can always get a Letter of Marquee from the governor and sink any ships you like and be awarded land and stature for it.

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Sometimes characters' blades will break and they'll continue fighting with their fists. This should happen completely randomly and should have nothing to do with pirate ships. BTW: Is it your crew or the enemy's crew that ends up fighting with their fists? If it's your crew, you should put some better weapons in your weapon's locker. Worn weapons can break after extensive usage and they'll get extensive usage when using in boarding after boarding.

Thanks hangar18. That was a very good explanation. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

hangar18, can you post that bit of the walkthrough here please? considering quests, i have a very good memory, and i have played them all except a few of the really new ones. i would be able to help you out.

Thanks Pieter. I'm playing B13 and I think the reason the govnr no longer offers me the "a pirate ship has been menacing our shores please go sink him" request is because I did buy a letter of marque. As for the swords problem, I didnt even know you could (should) stock up on swords for your crew. I thought they just came automatically with the crew. I will check it out tonight and see how to mass purchase swords for crew. Presumably its a menu option when you dock somewhere?

Thanks for your offer to help. I've copied the bit of the walkthrough and typed in bold the bits that I'm struggling with.

Quest 7 Black Pearl

This is the original quest of delivering the locked chest to Tavern keeper at
Redmond from shipyard owner at Oxbay. So you go back to Oxbay. French ships
won't be there to attack you because English already liberated Oxbay. Shipyard
owner admitted that he knows about the attack but he didn't plan to set you. In
fact he set up the Tavern keeper because he is his enemy. In the chest, there
are coins inside. Those pirates are like ghosts, and they follow the coins and
kill the man who has the coins. He will tell you that if you want to know more
about these coins go to Flarais de Flu.
Sail to the Flarais de Flu and first time you enter to Flarais de Flu, you will
encounter
'Black Pearl' ghost ship. Don't bother trying to sink that ship. You ship will
be sank instead. If you don't start attacking, it won't attack you. Sail to the
port and find a house inside there is a man sitting. To find his house, just go
straight from the port door (WHAT PORT DOOR?). You will see on your left two houses and on your
right there is a road to Jungle (NO THERE IS ONLY A ROAD PAST THE GATEHOUSE TO ANOTHER PART OF THE PORT AND THEN ON TO THE CITY). The guy is in the second house on the left. He
will tell you a story about the 'Black Pearl' and its cursed pirates. Apparently
you cannot kill it.
When you get out of the house the man will come and talk to you. He and you will
be drinking at Tavern and he will tell you about how to kill the Black Pearl. In
order to destroy the ship, you will need an ancient Incan treasure. The quest
will end temporary here.

As you remember doing it before, might you be going at it from memory, without first talking to McDorey on Oxbay about the chest?
I'm not sure if it matters but perhaps Henry Peat doesn't appear in his home unless you talk to McDorey first.

Anyway, arriving at the dock, you proceed up the stairs and through the first gate.

Then you see this.

To give weapons to your crew, go into your captain's cabin and put new and better weapons in the weapons locker in there. It is just an ordinary box, but the crew uses the weapons put in there. The crew use cutlasses by default, but you can make them fight much better by giving them better blades. Also: The default cutlasses decrease in quality over time as do all blades, so you need to make sure to restock the crew with better weapons every now and then.

and petros did it again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> oh well.

here's a tip: try going into a fort via the land. it is not possible in all cities, but most of them do have a land entrance. you will be stunned about how many good items you find on the soldiers! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> i have equipped my entire boarding crew with good or better solingen rapiers and braces of large pistols. i do have the breaking of weapons off though.

also: the house directly to the left from the point where petros took the screenshot is a house used in a quest you can get from the falaise de fleur church. only good for reputation, and you will need a good reputation to play it. you can see a glimpse of the house in the left part of the screenshot.

Did what?

Saved the day, I believe. I can never remember where that guy lives either. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

nevermind. what has it to do with saving the day and where he lives? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":huh" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />

I was stating that Petros helped us out and reminded us where that guy lives that you need to visit in order to continue the quest. I'm assuming that's what you meant when you said that Petros did it again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

For those who can't find quest related houses, I'll give some tips:
1. In Falaise de Fleur, all the quest related houses are called "House in Falaise de Fleur". Just pay attention to the top-left corner of the screen when you are in front of a door. The normal houses will be called "House";
2. In the other islands, the quest related houses have self explanatory names, like "House of Mateus Santos" in Isla Muelle and "Rheims House in Smuggler's Camp" at Conceição smugglers.
That's it. I hope that it helps. And sorry for my bad english.

Also the guy that you're looking for is sitting on a bed in his house and he may be easy to miss if you dont look around a little. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

true, but in the stock game, the 'house in falaise de fleur' (or any other city) occured with any house with someone in it. however, in the build, nearly every house has someone in it, so it no longer does the work it used to do. it can now be used as a way to find the quest characters in a house.
