Can anyone tell me what the difference between a Cannon is and a Calvarine? Besides the slight difference in appearance which is better? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" />

A cannon does more damage, is quicker to reload, but has a shorter range. A calverine has a much longer range, but takes longer to load and does less damage. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" />
 
If you tell the shipwright you want to install new cannons on your ship, you will be able to see the differences as the stats are all there like when you look at the ships. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Oh, I don´t know, for siegin´ a fort, culverines are right handy to stay outside the fort´s range. What cannon caliber do the forts have, by the way?
 
Very true hey... well i guess the modus operandi would be to change them before a fort attack... (if there is enough money that is)

32 pounders which have great range and do much damage.

Best to go at the forts with 32's yourself, if you get a ship that has them or can afford to install them.

I hear there is a quest to "pound" a fort but i guess, unless you are a pirate it isn't good for business to just go round pounding forts. Am i right? I guess i have tried to keep my reputation at least at bloke level...

are there any forts one can pound and NOT lose rep?
 
If you´re hostile with a nation and the fort (and ships) open fire at you anyways, then there´s no loss in Reputation for shooting back. The trick is getting one nation hostile to you, because that does involve a loss of reputation - even if you hoist the Jolly Roger (in build 11, I´m not sure about b12). The only exception is: do the main quest and at a certain point the English get as hostile as one can wish.
