Save that powder!

Rum Runner
I have decided to try my hand at making a new quest, and in the process of laying out part of the plot, I discovered that gunpowder is the most valuable commodity in the game! At a base price of 100 per ton according to the initGoods.c file, it is almost 6 times more valuable than gold! I guess I'm going to be grabbing the powder first from now on when plundering my prey. And to think of all that loot I let sink to the bottom in my ignorance! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

But the weight of powder isn't very impressive, is it? It takes quite a lot of powder good "items" to amount to one ton.

Very true, but does POTC calculate volume for goods, or just weight in determining capacity? Is "Units" in the initGoods.c file a measure of volume?

If so, then what is the corresponding volume parameter in the Ships_init.c file? I don't see anything here that would allow for a volume calculation. I will have to experiment tonight when I get home. The situation that brought me to this was setting up an arms deal to be interrupted by the PC. I wanted to make sure that both sides of the deal were equal in terms of what was being exchanged, and that success would net the PC a reasonably nice profit for the risks involved. When I realized that 417 tons of powder were worth 2500 tons of gold at base prices- ie. 41,667 piastres, or whatever flavor of currency you prefer, I decided to stop letting powder sink with non-captured prizes!
