Solved Sail error on some newer ship models

Hi all,

Noticed this while playing Beta 3:

Not hugely urgent, but thought it was relevant enough to post. I also observed this on the HMS Victory model.

Also, seeing this whenever I look at the ocean:

Seems a bit strange. This appears with and without the ENB thing running.

I did that for a reason. You see, the stay sails are set in place and do not move, but any ropes strung between masts do move. With a stay strung between the masts and a sail hanging off it you see the sail not moving while the stay does move up and down. Disconcerting, and most players can't see that anyway.

BTW, with your hardware you should be running with a load of AA and AF. At least 8X each. You can set up a profile in your control panel by changing the settings for Cossacks II, which for some reason = POTC. Also, if you have the CPU I think you do it can overclock to at least 4.5ghz very easily. Mine is running at 4.8ghz right now.

What version of POTC are you using? That is what POTC looked like 2 years ago, but now it looks far far better. More like this.

Oily water? AGAIN??? Oh no.... What file controlled that again? I think that is due to a file in the American game version that has a different version in the Euro version.
That is why I keep missing out on it. :facepalm

Ahh. I have not used the crap American version in some time. It was something bzt something...............

Ah, I see. As long as the sails are supposed to look that way - I just thought it might be a texture issue.

Also - where do I set AA and all that stuff?

Extract attached to RESOURCE\Textures\WEATHER\BUMP_G3 to fix the water appearance again.
Thanks for catching! That should DEFINITELY be in the Beta 3 public release! :cheers

Thanks Pieter! I'll give that a shot.

My question re: changing AA and AF still stands, though - I'm unsure of where to change this. I remember the stock game included a "config.exe" tool, but all I could set in that was "Graphics: HIGH". No specific settings for anti-aliasing etc.

Aww....I just found the post with the good bump.zap here. http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/water-issue.17627/page-8#post-398779

Colloseum: It has been a while since I had an Nvidia card.....but. You need to go into your Nvidia control panel and make the changes there. In the control panel look for 3d settings, or performance or.........well look for things you can change like quality and AA and AF and vertical synch and such. In the top left corner will be 2 tabs, on general and one programs or something. Click on that one and find Cossacks II and tinker with it. Set everything to max and then play POTC and see if anything changes.

It didn't have those options. I think it is something in your GFX card control panel or something, but I never touched that.
Hopefully somebody else here can help you out with that one.

Hmm, I can find "engine" in the nVidia control panel, but not "Cossacks II". I have an American game version, though - which might explain it.

Here are the settings I've selected:

Still, no change to the game - even after a PC restart. Any ideas? :(

With the Build Mod installed, it doesn't matter anymore if it was an American game version or an European one. They all end up the same.
The only difference left was that file you got today.

Ah, the trick is to run the game in full screen mode. I don't really like doing that as it seems to be setup for a 4:3 aspect ratio, and I like being able to alt-tab. I guess I'll have to live with some aliased stuff for now!

Ah! You found the right place. No more cossacks II? It has been 2 years or so for me.

antialiasing- mode- do not enhance the setting, force it.

antialiasing- setting 32x might be excessive and drag performance down too much.

You don't want supersample. Multisample is plenty.

You probably have a single monitor and should set it for that.

In your engine.ini right at the top you can set your screen resolution to whatever you want. Full screen only? That is odd. I don't like using windowed mode because it unlocks the frame rate, which sometimes gets completely out of hand and overheats the video card. 1,000fps is not needed.

Well, maybe not 1,000fps. Maybe 700fps. It also disables the graphics options so the screen is too dark and the mouse goes wonky too. So I use full screen.

I have not - going to leave it at 1280x960. I prefer the 4:3 resolution in POTC for some reason (stupid nostalgia probably), and have gotten used to the screen size anyway. I also like being able to easily alt-tab out of the game if necessary.

Thanks for all your help guys!
