I was working along just fine, with the NK11 build.
I saved the game after quest accomplishments, and during a walk through the jungle, the damsel approached me....

I was quick to draw my blade and have at'em, but I was also quick to fire my pistol....oops, I shot the damsel....

THen, whenever I go to the shop or the Shipyard, they say "Get out of here before I call the guards..."

Is this because I killed the damsel?
My rep was "Bloddy Terror"

You can easlly improve your rep. but before you start on that give back any money you have taken from any loanshark if you didn't do this yet , becuase your rep. will not improve if there still money has to be payed back to them ....
 
Is there any way to determine how much I owe the landshark?

THe reason I ask is I followed my guides advice in the beginning whenhe says go borrow some money, buy the silk and cinnamon (or whatever) and sell it in Redmond....I have saved many different games and think maybe that initial loan got lost in an old character.
i also "deposited" some money for safekeeping with one of them....not sure how to get that back....

Maybe since I have learned a few tricks and game play strategies, and I have since killed the French drunk captain to get his papers, I'm not too far involved and could start a new game....

Saving a damsel is one of the best and easiest ways to get your reputation back up, but here's a small word of advice... Don't kill the girl, next time! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Seriously, to increase the frequency of finding a damsel in distress, go into the jungle and find a portal between one section and another - go back and forth between them and the rapers will respawn every once in a while so you can save another girl. You can do this over and over again until your rep is better...

To find out how much you owe the loanshark, go back to him and ask. Also if you've left money with a loanshark, you can get it back by going and asking for it back. You should have earned interest on it too.

You said you followed your guide and borrow money from oxbay loanshark then you have to pay it back , if you don't remember with whom you left your money then you have ask them all again , they are not so many !! Ask in redmond , Dutch island , Spain Island , Portugal Island but not in the French Island . I think you have not been their yet .

Starting a new game is much better option . You can start with amount of money you want ( 100000000 ) , have skills 10/10 , freeability points to activate all of your abilities , better ship , higher level and many things ... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

It's great to find a forum that quickly responds with helpful info!

I started over last night...I was pretty quick to get through the early stage and take Massoni's? papers...I was Then I sailed off to FDF to replace the escort, and when we left port there were 2 pirates giving us trouble and I ended up dying in a boarding....

I'll keep at it, great game and great support here!

On the topic of Reputation, does going into the houses and liberating items found affect your reputation? I seem to be stuck at Neutral even though I am at level 9. I know, at level 9 I am still just a pup.

Neutral is good, tho, Bumpkin. If you want it better, go rescue some damsels in the jungle (what are they doing out there all by themselves, anyhow?!!!). But at neutral, no one will be suspicious of you and you'll be fine...
 
I don't think that if you take items from houses may effect yor rep. specially if no one in the house .... in addition to what Catalina says you can do some side quest to improve your rep .....
 
I think Bumpkin is playing the unmodded POTC, Let me know if I'm wrong Bumpkin, I keep putting in my two doubloons on that basis and some of my advice will make no sense in a game with Build 11.

Me old mate, Pirate Sam's advice is as good as ever, and if you do escort missions, which you can get in the tavern, or delivery missions that you get from the stores, or give money to the church, or complete main quest adventures, your rep will go up. I tend to favor being "dashing" rather than "Heroic", but that is just my personal preference.

Damsels to rescue was taken out of POTC by Disney, but it has been restored to us by the modders <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" /> and is in Build 11.
 
I managed to bump myself up to Matey after saving some damsels, and left it at that. Went away to attack some English military ships and after several successes I went in to amend my profile and found that I'd been bumped up to HERO! Now I'm not quite sure what I did to deserve this (maybe the French like me more now that I'm bashing the English, LOL), but hey... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> I'm not complaining! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
