Solved Quick question: how do I get out of Khael Roa/Cozumel?

Blind Owl

Powder Monkey
Okay, I've captured the ghost ship and (presumably) Danielle's heart, but I can't get back out to the open sea. My only choices seem to be 'Map', which leaves me squirming in that too-skinny once-a-year channel, and 'Khael Roa Beach', which puts me back in the lagoon. No matter how long I ply the blue Caribbean or speed up the time scale, returning to Map mode shows my flotilla still glued to the island even though Open Sea is enabled.

Any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated.:read

Cheers ... with "returning to map mode" you mnean returning to world map?

Ok .. It's been a while since I last was there ... but I underszand you were able to sail out of that narrow bay directly, right?
But you get back into the bay when going to world map?

If that's the problem, then I suggest just not to go back to world map.
In any game mode - arcade, realistic and iron man - direct sail is enabled, means, yo can sail completely directly from one island to the next. You don't need the world map at all.
This may not become your favorite playing style, but it shall solve your actual problem.

So - sail out of that bay, point your ship towards the next island, should be Cuba or Eleuthera whatever you choose - and then sail strait there. Whith sextant and chronometer you will see your position on the map (I mean the map at M, not the world map used fort traveling). If you don't have a chronometer, just head roughly Northeast for Cuba or southeast for Eleuthere. Sail straight until you get a "land ho" loadscreen. Save the game. Then try your short travel and see if it leads to new targets now. Or hit worlf map, I think it will place you near your new island rather than back to cozumel.

Hope this helps.

Ok, this is a memory test. :pirate07:

After the Temple you I direct sail to the Black Pearl which is just outside the lagoon. After that battle I go to the world map, wiggle through that channel and set sail for Havana and don't drop back to direct sail till I'm almost there. Then it is only 2-6 days of sailing into the harbor depending on the wind.

Does that sound about right?

Hmm, for some reason I'm too fat to wiggle out of the lagoon. I haven't even tried the sextant-and-chronometer method yet, but I'll investigate it. Thanks, gents!

:cheers

Well you don't need the. You know where Kael Roa ist, you surely have a compass - just sail roughly into the rioght direction. If you have bad winds use arcade mode. I'd guess it won't take too long until that land ho message.

Got it now, thanks! This is the first time I've used Direct Sail, but between that and speeding up the time factor, I was able to figure out how it works. Yowee, this will be fun! I may even disable Cheat Mode!

Then again, I really really hate the combat system...:walkplank

Usually the trick is to sail through the passage in 3D sailing mode, then switch to the Worldmap after you got out.
That's what I remember anyway.

Cheers mate,

I'm glad it worked for you.

What's the problem with the combat system? And are you referring to naval combat or melee combat?

I don't much like the melee combat system: the forced 3rd-person perspective, the lousy aim and limited usefulness of ranged weapons, and the way the camera swivels around.

I'd prefer something along the lines of e.g. Skyrim's combat system—it gives me a better sense of control—but what the heck, naval combat more than makes up for it. Without that, POTC wouldn't be worth playing.:pirate07:

Indeed the swordplay isn't the best.

The Shotgun Mode can be entertaining though.

Ranged weapons never were overly effective back in those days, I think.
