Questions

Zantozzzz

Landlubber
I have a few questions about this game I just got.

As I see it is very realistic that is what makes it fun but it also makes it very hard in the easiest game mode. So my first question is that if there is a way to improve the sailors experience because I bought a new ship and it came with 4 sailors, all of them are very skillful but when I go to High seas and I get attacked by pirates or ships from another country I cant sink any ship and when they grap me I lost all my 2 or 4 sailors as soon as the battle begins. And if I hire a lot of sailors in the tavern the moral goes down and the skillful sailors quantity decreases.

I also want to know if there is a way to improve my relationship with other countries? because I am just starting and as soon as I enter in High seas the enemies just try to sink me.

How can I improve my landbattle skills? Cuz when I am in a city (I always choose spain) the only mission I know that needs you to fight is the one you get from the governor.

What is the difference between hiring or not officers? I just hired 2 of them, one medic and one gunner but it still takes a whole eternity to my sailors to reload the cannons or they die still too fast and I have checked if they have the required skills to being a gunner or medic.

Is there a map that shows the location of all the colonies and other beaches? because I have died more than one time when I accidentally approach to an enemy's island because I dont know the exact location of all the colonies.

Is there a way to repair the ship during battle? I ask this because I have looted items from other ships like canvas and wooden planks and it says somoething like they can be used to repair the ship.

When I fix my char points some negative and red numbers appears just next to the skill numbers and as I try to increase my skill the negative numbers increases too, for example: Cannon Acuraccy (-10) 11
and the negative number always leave my skill's value in 1 point, if I try to increase it from 11 to 12 then the negative number will be -11. What is going on?

I think that is all I am sorry if they are too much questions but I haven't seen any instructions on internet and as I see you dont have to follow a storyline, Thanks for the help.

No ship comes with sailors, sailors = crew onboard. You can hire crew from the tavern by speaking with the owner behind the bar. If you do not have enough crew onboard then the ship will not operate at its full potental. If you press F2 and go to the ships tab and look down the list you see it tells you minimum and maximum crew for that ship, try to have at least minimum crew. If your planning on attacking other ships then have as many crew as your ship will carry.

The relations between you and the other nations is determined by which nations flag you are flying, if its the jolly roger then every nation will see you as hostile, if you press F2 and look in the nations tab you will see what the nations stants are towards each other and towards you.

Boarding enemy ships will build your skills up in which ever weapon you have equiped ie, light, medium or heavy weapon and pistal type. The better your weapons the more damage you will infict on your enemies and the better chance you have of winning the boarding.

Press F2 and go to the character's tab, set the officer's to each of the roles, ie the officer with the best stats in gunnery to gunnery etc. Your own character skills will effect some things as will the crews skills. The crews skills will build up over time, and so will your own depending on what you are doing. The more naval battles you fight the quicker your own gunnery and aim skills will build up as will navigation etc etc.

Here is a link to a MAP there are maps you can purchase ingame aswell from markey stalls and the store owner, but they can cost a lot in the openeing game.

Hire a officer who's good at repairs and set him to the role of repair in the character's tab when pressing F2, purchase some sail cloth and planks as thesae are what will be required to patch up your ship durring battles and between sailing from island to island.

The first value's show how many points till your reach the next level for that skill, so if its -11 then you are either not using that skill very often or you are not using it very well, also some good you can purchase are take from the dead will effect skills, so sell what ever has minus effects on skills.

Are you playing with any mods installed?

Welcome to PA and COAS> :onya

Well it seems to me that you are currently sailing on a higher rate ship what your navigation skill would otherwise allow. In this game your nav skill is what determines what rate you can steer without penalties not your character`s level.
Right click on navigation and that`ll show you the required skill to steer each class. :onya

Ps: As for having 4(!) sailors on a ship well its not enough 4men could only load 1 cannon at a time so thats why it takes ages to reload.(I am not even sure how the game lets you go into world sail mode without having the minimum crew on board :shrug)

That would be due to level of difficulty picked at the start, i don't exactly know when the cap is activated but i know for sailor level you can capture a ship and put just a captain onboard it and go to world map with no problems. In captain difficulty you can sail your ship with less than minimum crew but your companions must have minimum crew ore more aboard there ships before you can use quick sail or go back to the world map.

Well yesterday I just downloaded the 3.1.5 mod but I haven't had time to play for more than 5 mins.
I always choose Diego Espinoza but all the guides I see are for Peter blood so all I can do with that char is to navigate and try to sink ships.

Peter Blood is the only character to have his own quest which once completed he becomes like any other character in the game.

Here is a screenshot of my skills. I didnt understand much about what you said of the negative numbers but I right-clicked the navigation skills and it says that Class 1 requires 95 and etc, so my ship is class 3 do I have to improve my navigation skill to the Class and required number that appears in there I wont have more problems with those negative numbers?

Judging from the screenshot you still in command of the frigate Cinco Llagas which is class 2 or 3 ship but you only have a combined(Jeremy or the current navigator's skill) skill of 35, and that allows you to steer ships up to level 5 I think which means you get a penalty of 2 points(max rate 5 minus current ship's rate 3)on all of your P.I.R.A.T.E.S. stats.
Those penalties in turn decrease your "minor" skills like shooting or fencing as well :onya.

Get a new ship or get a better navigator, however bear in mind that CL is a unique frigate with very good stats so instead selling her consider mooring her at a Port Control. As for Jeremy-he is a quest officer, he will never desert you no matter what actions or path you'll take so it is advisable to keep him as well.
