Questions on game....

KVCC

Landlubber
Right so i got this mod, first off its AMAZING. Big improvement to the game! Some things i didnt like but i could easily delete them from the game which was extremely simple.

Anyways, i'm kinda lost on how to start making money. So far i've been capturing ships and officers..... but when I do capture anyone they just become a passenger and they cant control any ships.

Which game version do you use? Build 13? Build 12.1? Or on of the Build 14 Alpha versions?

The simplest way to make money is to play the main quest. You can assign your officers to captured ships. In Build 13 and further you can hire prisoners as officers by talking to them in your ship's hold. Press Enter while at sea to access. In all versions you can hire officers in the taverns. You can sell the ships or their cargo to the traders and shipyards. There is plenty other ways of making money though, including looting dead enemies, stealing from town folk, playing quests, trading, doing escort missions, joining a nation's navy, etc.

Im using Build 13.

And thats the thing when i go to my deck and ask them to join they say ok, then i discuss salary and they dissapear but they're still under passenger not officer. Also they dont follow me on land,.

You have to open the Passengers screen, then click on your officer and click on one of the three empty squares at the bottom half of the screen. I am at school so I can't show a screenshot. Once you did this, he will follow you.

that's why you should assign them as officers. click on one of the empty spots in your passenger menu and double-click on one of the officer icons.

haha wow who would of that it was THAT easy.

Thanks for that guys, maybe now boarding ships and things wont be hard with officers.(They can command ships right?)

uh....boarding ships may actually be HARDER with officers. they usually suck at swordfighting, which is bad, cos you can't afford to lose them.

LOL. True. But you'll find out soon enough. By talking to your officers, you can tell them to sit out boardings so that they won't join you on boardings, but WILL follow you ashore.

Yeah..early officers (lvl1-5) suck at boarding. They die faster then your regular crew it seems like. Also, make sure everyone has Excellent Weapons ( in the weapons locker and on your officers )and armor on your officers. You can upgrade swords at the blacksmith shop IN FdF, Greenford, Isla Muella and pistols at Conceicao. I don't think muskets and or rifles can be upgraded..dunno why tho.

Really, the fastest way I've found to raise cash and exp is running trading missions. Capture a good Fast Schooner, and a few Fluyts and you'll have enough sailing speed and cargo space to make a good living at trading missions and still escape ur enemies.

you can do the same with a single manowar, and that thing gives the added bonus of being able to pound everything into dust. it's possible to get one in 38 days.

IDK, Manowars make the game too easy unless ur above journeyman lvl difficulty. I'm partial to the Schooner 'cause it's fast and with a high turning rate I can move in and out of firing ranges before most ships can target me. Downside is the lower numbers of soldiers/crew compared to the bigger Class 1-2 ships that can have 200-300 crew, but with grapeshot, I can widdle those down pretty fast. Schooners DO NOT take broadsides very well though so you really have to watch the angle of attack. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

There's this funky clicking thing you have to do to move someone from passenger to officer (Build 13). It took me a while to figure it out, also.

To make an officer an officer and not a passenger, press F2. Click Passengers tab. Click one of the three available passenger slots which are empty to select it. Double left-click the passenger you want in that officer slot.

When you board a ship, you will have the ability to commandeer that ship by 1) adding at least the min crew, and 2) adding an officer.

If you have a dedicated second ship, with captain, you can add additional officers to that ship, too.

There are certain adjustments you can make between ships in your convoy via the F2 feature, and certain ones you have to be at sea to do. I find it annoying that I have to be at sea to move contraband between ships, for example. This might fix itself if I got (cared to get?) the Trustworthy guy Ability.

Did you try using the ship-to-ship transfer menu to move that cargo around?

we all know that, you know. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> anyway, i would have that schooner of yours dismasted almost immediatly. it's very easy to do with those low things. i'd simply squash you after that.

In The build you can use ship to ship transfers on land.
While in game hit F2, then at top click ship, and on that menu screen, near the bottom click "Ship-to-Ship Transfer"

Trustworthy Lad ability allows you to sell contraband goods directly to merchants.
It is not needed to move cargo from ship to ship.

Hi Petos,
True, it's just annoying to not see /all/ my ships cargo when I'm at the merchant in a port. There's inevitably some Ebony or something that gets missed when I am trying to sell everything and I can't find why my cargo capacity is so low.

Why your cargo capacity is so low? That depends on the ship you're using.

I love to smuggle goods. I play as a pirate/smuggler and buy goods cheap and smuggle them into towns where its contraband. You can make a fortune pretty fast that was as long as you don't over do it. If you bring too much stuff you usually wind up paying to much for the large amount and not getting paid enough for the large amount so you make very little by smuggling too much. If you do it right you will make a crap load. Also if you can start capturing small ships during you smuggling runs and sell them in ship yards.

The mechant missions are a good source of revenure too but as a pirate honest work is no fun lol
