questions about Build 13

chosen man

Landlubber
Hey. Been playing 13 and am enjoying it immensely, but two questions are outstanding...

No1
Used to be able to ransom captured pirate scum, how is this now done once they are clapped in irons?

No2
Is there a way to up the resolution to 1280x1024 ?

thanks in advance.

go to your (first) cargo hold and talk to him. then talk to them again when you are at an island of their nation, but you need to find out which island of that nation you need.

Thanks <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> Answered that question myself too, right after posting DOH. Does anyone know if resolution can be adjusted ?

if it's possible, you should be able to do it in 'configure PotC' in the start menu.

Problem is, the max resolution it supports there is 1280x960 or something like that... I've tried tweaking <b>engine.ini</b> and once got it to display it on 1280x960 with two black columns on the sides, but I couldn't later reproduce it (after a reinstall). =|

Hmm. thanks lads. I've looed in all the obvious places to set it, though not the 'engine.ini' 1280x960 would do I think. Will fiddle with it later methinks.

looed? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I just downloaded the mod and signed up here, so i too haev a few questions:
1) Where are the brothels? (i have them turned on in the buildsettings.h)
2) How many islands are classed as part of the archipeglo (sp?)
3) What are the top 10 ships?
4) on the original potc, you could only get upt o 4 ships, in build 13, can i get more?
I might have more in the future

the first question is actually a bit of a silly one. it says that it's at Quebradas Costillas at the very toggle for it.

let's see...you have

khael roa (none)
redmond (british)
oxbay (british)
douwesen (dutch)
cuba (portugese/spanish)
turk island (pirates)
tortuga (pirates)
hispaniola (spanish/french)
antigua (british)
saint martin (french/dutch)
conceciao (portugese)
isla muelle (spanish)
quebradas costillas (pirate)
cayman (british)
guadeloupe (french)
falaise de fleur (french)
isla de muerta (hidden until you find jack's compass)
and an uncharted island in the middle of the ocean

so that makes 18!

the top ten depends entirely on your personal preference, but good ship's are schooner-typed ships, the ketch, the bermuda sloop, the corvette, the manowar (the battleship and the frigate are not bad either though, but have less firepower) and maybe a few more.

nope. you can berth ships at an island though for later retrieval.

There are also brothels on Tortuga and Guadeloupe in Build 14 Alpha 6, but they're empty. Nobody there.

All islands are considered part of the archipelago. Basicaly all the islands on the 3D worldmap are all the islands in the game. Except for Isla de Muerte which is hidden until you get the compass from Mr. Gibbs at Tortuga in Build 14 Alpha 6 + pb_modifcations.

Nicest ships as far as I'm concerned: Black Pearl, Spiegelretourschip (Amsterdam), Lugger VML, British Frigate (HMS Surprise) and Bermuda Sloop. They're not nescessarily the best ships to play with, but they certainly do look the best. Of course all of Petros' reskins (Fluit, Privateer, Pirate Corvette, Light Caravel, War Galeon, etc.) are awesome as well.

You still can only have four ships active in your fleet at once. This is hardcoded into the game engine and we cannot mod it.

I have another question me hearties.. So I managed to save enough to allow for the purchase and fitting of a nice frigate.

I understand the differences between the long gun and the carronade, and how they were used during the various wars ect ect.

What I was wondering is if I install carronades on my ship am I going to get 'better' or more effective 'close range' carnage over the long un's? is this included in 13?

shame we cant have more control over our gun fitting...

well, caronnades are used fore highly-damaging close combat, and long lines are used for long-ranged combat, but are less damaging.

So... can anyone confim that using carronades in 13 at very close range, say ships abreast distance will give me a worthwhile damage advantage over long guns? there should be a marked difference in damage caused at spitting distance than at the limit of their range?

The reason I'm asking is that if I equip a quick sloop of war or similar with carronades and only give him grape ammo, will the AI have the sloop engage at close enough range to warrant the use of carronades in the first instance? (guess I can try this later <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> )

If I'm able to order one or two quicker ships to get real cosy with an enemy ship and pepper it with grape, whittling away at the manpower, thereby slowing down its rate of fire ect (might work well against very large ships) Allowing me to stand off with my frigate at a distance and pound it with long'uns?

didn't i just do that?

well, i use long lines, as the range advantage is pretty handy. but ships that are far away are also harder to hit, so it may be more effective to use caronnades, although you do increase the risk of being fired upon. it depends on your personal preference.

what i would do is use caronnades early on, when you have little accuracy, and switch to long lines when your accuracy is higher.

the tactics don't go that far with this game. i tried, but your companions only use round shot.
