Question About Officers

Hey Everybody, nice to meet you. I just signed up and can say that I am enjoying my stay at Pirates Ahoy.

Well Anyway, My question is , Whenever I capture ships I notice that other then making just one new captain of the ship you can also add officers, well Of course I did this. But when I went to the ship yard and decided on selling that ship, all of my officers , except the person I assinged as the captain disappered. Could anyone give me any info on this little bug?

Thank you very much for the info. Yes I've been wanting to play Build 11 for some time now. The only probelm is my computer has a little probelm where it can only download .zip and .rar files. So sadly I must make do with regular PoTC until I either get a new computer or find some way how to get Build 11 in a zip form. Well Thanks alot anyway for the info, you've been alot of help.
 
Looks like ye either gotta temporarily adjust yer virus software and/or firewall so's yte kin download de Build... or git somebody tew zip up de Build fer ye! With me, it started out with the thought, "Gee, I wonder if I could..."

What abouts yer crew? Do you need to leave any aboard? Do you just go to the tavern after the ship gets paid off an hires them back?

I have been trying to figure the officer one out. I have not been taking any ships cause each time i transfers the Cap'n and Crew the barky sinks. Last time I did had my daughter on my lap and ended up transferring everything into captured ship then watched it sink. She says "do it again".

Great game. This board is very handy and a great place to browse.

<b>bumpkin, </b>when you capture a ship you need to pick someone from your list of officers to captain her until you sail back to a port to sell her and her cargo.

There is also a certain number of crew that is needed to sail the ship - fall below the minimum and you will not be able to sail her at all.

In the capture/plunder screen you should first pick "Assign Captain" to be sure that you keep the ship - if you forget to do that, the ship will sink, sure enough...

Crew will stay aboard your ship when you are in port - unless you are a tyrant and they mutiny... But then they usuall hang you, so <shrug> as your daughter very astutely (and 'cutely', LOL!) notes, "do it again". <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

It sounds to me like you've got the makings of a good future pirate in your daughter there. I find myself saying the same thing when I sink a ship. I don't remember for sure, but if I recall correctly you are playing with Build 11, and if I understand your question, then I think the answer is; After you divide the plunder with your crew, some of the crew wander off and you have to go to the taven to hire some more to fully staff your ship.

The captured ship should not be sinking, and as long as you are assigning at least one of your officers, on the cargo transfer screen, to the captured ship it shouldn't sink. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mellow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":|" border="0" alt="mellow.gif" />

One possible thing to check, If this is a one time situation that you came across, then it is possible that the captured ship was so heavily damaged in the battle that it sank after the transfer. The condition of the ship is listed on the transfer screen and if it is very low there's a good chance that the ship will go down even if no one is shooting at it. This is very important to keep in mind if you are swapping ships with a captured ship. It's no fun after taking a ship and then going for a swim...with the sharks. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_twisted.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":twisted:" border="0" alt="icon_twisted.gif" />

You definitely want to spend time capturing ships, it's a better way to trade up than buying a ship. If this is a bug, then it ias a new one to me, I haven't heard of anyone having a problem like this before.

Ahoy,

Both of my daughters enjoy playing POTC. They mainly like walking around town, knocking on doors, talking to people and going swimming. I can not go down into the dungeons to fight the skeletons when they are with me. I have two games going, one for them and one for me. Their game may be getting a little to violent as the 3 yr old is saying things like "kill pirate!", "shoot now?" and "we dead?" We have not been able to swim out far enough to pet the sharks.

As to the crew transfer and selling ships thanks for the info. I will put it to use tonight.

I am playing an unmodded version. I still have not been able to find a decent sword. So I end up dying a lot. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
 
Hee hee, sounds like when my little sister plays. She's no good at swordfighting or ship battles, but she loves to loot and see what kind of swag she's gotten.

Though lately she's given up the game for some horrid pink Barbie horse riding game...

So let's meet in the middle, put horses into PotC and give Danielle some pink clothes, and she'll come back to the fold.

(Two girls, congratulations, and one just past the "The terrible twos", I've no children of my own so I cannot fully appreciate how you go about managing your crew, but here's some more rum for you and Missus Bumpkin as well. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> )

The swordplay is set up so that it's not the quality of the sword that matters so much, it's how you use it, mate. If you find you're getting killed a lot in swordfights, you're probably not blocking enough, because especially early in the unmodded game, the bad guys are not really that tough. Holding down the "control" key pretty much blocks all of the incoming attacks (even if you're facing four guys at the same time.), and when I first started playing I found the spacebar to be too slow and unresponsive, and so I changed the attack button to the "x" key. That works for me, but you may find a way that works better for you.

Also, in the dungeons try to find the areas that make bottlenecks so only one enemy at a time can approach.

In the unmodded game on the lower floor of the Oxbay dungeon there is a good free sword that you can obtain fairly easily; when you go down the stairs to the second level you should encounter two skeletons who attack you in a short hallway. After you kill them, go to the end of the hallway and in the room there should be a wide pillar in front of you. walk to the pillar and follow it to your left. If you stay close to the wall a hand icon should appear and when you press F3 you will get a better sword. Don't go too far around the pillar because there are skeletons in a doorway opposite the pillar and they will attack if you get too close.

Hope this helps, there are other swords you can find in other dungeons in the game, that is one of the things that got taken out of the game in build 11, that I tend to miss, because it was fun looking for swords in dungeons.
