Well long story short I just picked up this game and went looking for patches. Found out there aren't any official ones but there is a Community one. Tracked it here <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> After that I got to "post build12" patch and even to this guy posting that hes testing his random quest generator <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Well firstly I can't express how impressed I am by your work guys! I would so like to help out but my knowledge of C-C++ is fairly limited (got to <b>if </b> and <b>for</b> )

Secondly would you recommend me playing vanilla game first or installing build12 with post build12 patches right away? I'm "worried" about raised difficulty or similar (I did a similar mistake with Freelancer, installed mod that owned me)

Or should I wait for this random quest generator to come along? Which would make my life complete untill Oblivion comes out <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Thank you for your time!

Welcome aboard. If you have not played POTC before, I would play the stock game awhile then load the build. You have to be sure the stock game is working correctly on your system before loading the build or its additions. The stock game does have bugs, but the build fixed them. However, bugs are still being worked out of the latest community build so you will have bugs (not many) there to. Testing is always welcome.

The Newest build and the additions to it make the game far more interesting to play. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Funny, a lot of us landed here in much the same way! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Melhisedek, and welcome aboard! Have an ale! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" />

Don't worry overmuch about your knowledge of C - PotC is not really programmed in C - but rather a "sideways" version of C - I got to understand it and my coding experience leaned more towards perl than c - if you take a look at the <a href="http://robotsdontbleed.com/wacko/wakka.php?wakka=POTCwiki" target="_blank">PotC Wiki</a> it will help!

Meigger answered you well and true about playing the stock version of the game - at least for a little while - before installing the Build... Don't be concerned about difficulty levels - the default level is the same on the stock version - we didn't really change that, just modded the game around it. Whenever you decide the game has become too easy, you can bump up the difficulty level yourself - and things will change.

Are you, perchance, a modeler? We could use some more modelers here... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

And always remember that this --> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <-- guy is called "Modding" for a REASON! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Again, welcome aboard! We have fun here, and hope you will, too. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

I only played the stock version for a grand total of eight seconds. Then I downloaded, what was then, build 11 and never went back to the stock version.

The point is, there is no point in playing the stock version at all. NEVER. Na-ah.

Not unless you want to see how far we have come from the original release.

You might want to have a look at the stock game for a bit, so that you'll see the difference between the stock game and the Build. If you just load the Build straight away, you might miss just how much the game got improved.
BTW: Build 12 runs quite stable and bug-free. However, the post Build 12 mods contain, apart from a lot of great new stuff, also a lot of not-so-great new bugs. And some of them are quite bad. So if you want the most stable, bug-free gaming experience, run only Build 12. If you are in for having more features, but more bugs as well, load the post Build 12 mods as well. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
