Solved New Horizon installation problem

Hello mateys!

I have played the vanilla game for quite a handful of playthroughs and I thought I'd try a mod to spice things up a bit. I chose the "New Horizon Build 14 Beta 3" that is available at the moddb webpage since that seemed to be quite interesting.

I downloaded the "part 1"-file and ran the .exe and brought up the install wizard, next I created a new folder (as stated in the description section on moddb C:\Games\Pirates of the Caribbean) and directed the install to this same folder. This is where my problem begins; the wizard aborts and tells me readme.txt cannot be found and that I need to install the vanilla game of PotC first. I have tried redownloading via a different mirror but the same problem persists.

Could you seadogs please help me as I really want to try the fantastic-looking mod you have created for this classic PC game!

At least we can try!

Do I understand right that you downladed only 1 part of the build? There shall be 2! And you need them both. I think I have written this somewhere lately because I got a similar problem when installing ... ah here it is:

1) Make a clean and fresh install of PotC NOT in the /Programs folder but somwhere else

2) The files you need to download are these:
b14_beta3_full.7z
b14_beta3_installer.4
Place both in the same folder (any folder, could be for ewxample your downlads folder).

3) start the installer and follow the instructions

That should do it.

Thank you very much!

In case there are any misunderstandings, do you want me to keep the vanilla game in C:\program files (x86)\bethesda... and install the mod into the folder I created or should they both be in the same C:\Games\Pirates... folder?

I apologise if I'm being fantastically dignorant about this but this is the first time modding like this!

Cheers mate,

nay ... and good that you ask.

The vanilla game shall not be in c:\program files .... just install or copy it to some other place. Being in program files may cause a lot of problems. For example, put it to c:\PotC or something like that.
Next step is to put the 2 downloaded files I named in another folder - regardless what folder, they just need to be in the same folder.

3rd step is to start the installer in that folder and direct the install into your potc folder (in my example that would then be c:potc)

Hope this helps.

Just to clarify:
The beta3 full and beta3 installer are what the files are called here on this site. On MODDB they are called part1 and part2.
