I'm interested in buying a netbook. However, I would like to know if POTC with Build 14 works on these kind of computers. Can anyone tell me if he plays POTC in a netbook? if yes, what are the specifications of his netbook and what is the display resolution used (1024x768 or 800x600 ....)

According to the Dutch Wikipedia:
Het draaien van zwaardere applicaties zoals moderne computerspellen of grafische software als Photoshop wordt niet aangeraden. Daarvoor is de hardware ontoereikend.
That translates as: "Running heavy applications such as modern computer games or graphical software like Photoshop is not recommended. The hardware is not good enough for that."

I wouldn't rather want to risk with a netbook. As "weaker" devices they have slow processors and use (probably mostly, but I'm not sure) onboard (integrated) video chipsets. Although there are some ways to walk around this issue - by using additional software, like swiftshader, described even on this forum - I still not recommend it as this kind of software will simply offset computations which normally would be done by a graphic card to processor (which is already weak). Mixing both things would have a serious impact on game performance.

I found an interesting page. Someone who installed POTC in a netbook (old netbook by the way seeing the specifications : Atom(TM) CPU N270 and Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family)

What do you think? :?

The problem mentioned there is a famous one. As per our FAQ:

3. My game doesn't work; now what?
The game tends not to work if:
- You have an Intel Onboard Graphics Card [workaround with Swiftshader Software Rendering - more info]

You can get the game to run with SwiftShader, but I once tried that on my laptop,
which has an Intel i7 processor (eg. a very good one) and the game still wouldn't run smoothly on software rendering.
My recommendation: Whatever you do decide to get, DON'T get anything that has an Intel Onboard Graphics Card. :no

The problem still remains - this user's netbook was too weak.

I'm lucky enough to have intel onboard graphics and still run PotC and AoP 2:CoAS without any emulators (except AoP: CT), but performance is poor - alas, as I've said, I'm extremely happy that those two games are working!

Better buy a notebook with better-than-intel-onboard graphics card. It's going to be more expensive, but, at least, this system won't get old as quickly as netbook. Remember, that after you buy portable computer (both netbook or notebook) you most likely won't be able to upgrade it. I had one, I bought it in 1995 - when RAM memory was expensive and I had only 4 MB. I tried to buy more RAM eleven months later, when it still was on warranty, but with no avail. As the result, I was using this computer in unchanged state until 2004.

Thanks both for your advices. I won't buy a netbook/notebook with an intel-onboard graphics card. Fortunately, new netbooks are released without this graphics card like this one :

That does sound better.

If you can, do what I did when I bought my previous laptop and put PotC on an external HD,
go to a store where they sell those laptops and ask if you can test if the game works.
That way you'll know for certain.

Finally, I bought an Asus netbook a few days ago. Here are the details :

* Fusion AMD C-30 processor 1.2 Ghz
* 10.1-inch LED-backlit display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels
* An AMD Radeon HD 6250 graphics card with support for DirectX11
* 1 GB of RAM
* Windows 7 starter
* Price : 239 euros

I installed POTC ( but not the BuildMod yet) and played half an hour. The resolution is 1024 x 600 pixels and I didn't note any slowdown. So, for now I'm happy to use this netbook. :rolleyes:
