Need help with Atios trigger. (Spoilers)

After rescuing Artois for the second time, out in the jungle. I choose the option to have him keep his secret. Now I know from previous games he is supposed be shot when you land with him in your party at Douwesin port. But this is not happening. I've tried placing him in each of the passenger slots without any other passengers, but to no avail. Am I forgeting something? Any help would be apprecitated, thanks.
