Solved merchant won't show up and pay

need help here. in the nathaniel storyline, i got a job from the tavern in speightstown to escort a merchant to hispaniola. this was the time when i was gonna pretend to escort the oiseau and capture or sink her. so then i left barbados and headed for hispaniola, and on the way, i captured the oiseau with the help of the merchant ship which i'm escorting, then i sold the oiseau at curacao(?). but when i arrived at hispaniola, the person who should pay me wouldn't show up, and the merchant ship is now following me everywhere. i tried docking at all the ports in hispaniola, but nothing happened. now i want to get rid of that merchant ship, but i can't sell it. can i just sink it? and would it affect my reputation if i did?

Some of the escort missions are bugged and the captain will not show up to pay you when you get to your destination. We had a thread on that in the bug tracker, but can no longer get there.
You say you are at Hispaniola. Would that be Port Au Prince? I found the captain there in the fort if memory serves me well.
But there is a solution. Board the merchant ship and go to the captains cabin. He will be there speaking gibberish. He must have gotten ahold of some bad rum. Kill him and then leave the ship. It will then be gone and there will be no penalty.
