Mefisto can belong ya!

Yup,when i fought Mefisto,i discovered that ye can actually board it and use it like any other ship,of course,it's damn difficult, but it worth the effort, yarr!!Mefisto can be especially useful if ye use it as yer assistant, but for ye frigate fanatics,ye can use it like yer own ship! i personally use a battleship,so Mefisto is my `vack-up` ship, but i just wish i could apply mefisto's textures to my own battleship....

:par Parrot: *SQUAWK!*

Of course you can, and she´s a fine ship. A funny thing about it: you can get more than one!
And here´s how you go: If you ask a governor for a pirate hunting mission, that particular pirate will be given <b>exactly the same ship you are using</b>. I´m not sure yet whether it´s the one you´re captain of when getting the mission or the one you´re leaving port with.

Here´s a picture of her in the evening light off some coast:

I love the lighting in this game, I could spend hours scrolling around my ships admiring them. It´s that beautiful.

Aye mate,nice screenie <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> ,and I couldn't agree wid ye more,some O' de scenic shots in de game are marvelous,moonlight shots are awsome as well <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Hmm, 2 bad i sold it then :p it's description looked like it was a pirate made frigate. What's the difference between em?

A pirate built ship uses the normal models and has the statistics modified according to the nation modifiers in Shipsinit.c, the Mefisto has unique statistics, and a model of its own.

Ugly and `evil-looking`, not my cup of tea.[/quote]You're just a privateer, not a pirate, Nathan. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" />

It´s fine for a unique ship, though I think the stern ornaments in gold would have made her look even more impressive. I do like the colours of the hull, the black and red combination. Way better than the normal frigate model with black, red and blue (cyan?). I´ll have to improve that one once I get the time to do it, this strange blue colour is just ugly. Themost beautiful frigate model, however, is the gold and green one, with the horse figurehead. That´s one true beauty.

Cat: We _do_ need a version of <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" /> tipping his hat and bowing, for I'd use one right now. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" /> / <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" />
For me, I have in descending order of priority:
1. Ship doesn't look evil
2. Ship looks like a _warship_, not a floating scultpure or mural.

Thus while I find a number of 17th century ships quite pretty as _sculptures_, I'd hate to fight from one (not least for the destruction to it that fighting would bring). Tiddly, topheavy things, too. Something like USS Constitution to me says basically: These people have their heads screwed on right, they realize what they need is a _warship_.

Which sums up my philosophy of war in general; to paraphrase Sherman, to prettify war is but to make it acceptable ("grow too fond of it" indeed!*), and that is far worse.

*That being said, there are two ways to read the quote, that: a, war is a thing to be fond of but for the killing, or b. that it is good the killing is plain to keep war as hated as it should be.
Personally I doubt Lee meant the latter, though it is possible.

{Wow, but I ramble on...sorry about the topicjacking... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" /> }

Heh... That smiley is on the top of my list of smileys - which I should do when I have half a moment! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

I like the Guber MOW, even tho it's a slow tub... Sure is pretty, and appears quite daunting (to me). But I know what you mean about ships - if they're warships, they should look like they mean business - and that they are SHIPSHAPE, not all grungy looking...

Funny, but I am mighty fond of that little lugger with which you start the game. She can't go up against the big boys without a LOT of damage, but maaaan, she does for a while if you're not too eager to level up and just want to enjoy the gameplay... Nice lines, too - I love how it's rigged... And I might be biased, but I love the skin I painted for her... Others might set a larger one for their starting ship, but I use the LuggerCT. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Hey Nathan... I couldn't get it up on the list of smileys yet, but here he is, hope you like him:

Wonderful! Thanks. <img src="http://www.ganotherapyusa.com/extras/doff.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />
I think I'll be using this muchly...

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> Perfect!

About the warships: Take a look at historical paintings, warships back then were more ornamented than a wedding cake. Though I´m not quite sure what for.

I think the ships on paintings are made more romantic, so offcourse they are more ornamented <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Grimm: Oh, I agree. But war itself was treated ornamentally, Romantically, (or perceived that way) and that's my point. To quote Nathan Bedford Forrest (proving that even a psychopathic clock is right twice a day...), "war means fightin' and fightin' means killin'."
To dress it up is to make it _worse_.

I think it helped naval recruitment, heh! (join the navy and see the world on a beauuuuuutifully appointed ship that will make you proud to say you SERVE on the BEST ship in the fleet!) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Granted, this is fiction, but look at how the carpenter on the Surprise, in the Master and Commander movie, worked to get the figurehead looking good again after a cannonball took her out - it IS pride, I think, a prime ingredient in crew morale...

And too, I think perhaps the initial craftsmanship was a bit more on the shipwright's side - you make a beautiful ship and it'll advertise your work!

Hmm quite true. Consider my opinion slightly less stringent. <img src="http://www.ganotherapyusa.com/extras/doff.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />
