Main Quest - Black Pearl - is it bugged now ?

First time round on this one I had two badly mauled ships from the engagement with Silehards man o war and the pirate ships and they simply could not catch up so I figured I would go back and play the Silehard battle again and try to capture his ship - this went OK. I even went back to Douwesen before that and got loads of extra ammo and repaired the ships.

Now I get back to the Black Pearl fight with a man in war and frigate and the biggest cache of ammo I have ever used. The Black Pearl is totally disabled in the water quite early on and I can simply pull alongside with the MOW and pump it full of every type of shot. I also have the special ability thingies burning away too to give them more damage.

The frustrating part is I spent four hours last night just 60 yards away from the BP pumping nearly 10,000 rounds into it and I could not get the hull damage below 9%, sails below 15% and crew below 6! I gave up in the end and quit the game as I was starting to lose it <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Does it really take this long and this many rounds to sink the BP ?

Whew... As far as I know, everything here should be normal - I've compared the quests_reaction.c files (orig and modded) and nothing has changed in the section that refers to the Pearl. I don't know why you can't get past this point...

I've found that when you shoot, first off, you only make a small effect on the Pearl, either 1 or 2% damage IF you do any damage at all.

You should aim in 1st person, because even tho you might have the best stats for your cannon and accuracy, it won't make a difference unless you aim in 1st person (on deck with reticle).

I was not playing in first person - is it really that critical to winning to be in that mode ? I was getting loads of critical hits on the BP hull all the time - I doubt I could do that well in first person. I found the reverse happened with me ie. loads of quick damage to start with then a real slow down and finally a halt at 9% hull damage. I must have spent 3 hours alone pumping iron into that ship when it was already at 9% damage and it never decreased below that the whole time <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />

P.S. How long, on average has it taken people to sink the BP ? I cannot believe the game requires you to sit there for 4 hours+ just pumping shot into this thing - or is that a typical length of time <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock:" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />
 
I reckon ive sunk the Pearl about a dozen times and ive encountered your problem on two or three occasions. Basically the first time it happened i kept on firing til i ran out of ammo and had to go back to last save (which was before the second Battle of Oxbay!).

It seems that there is a bug that makes the Pearl stop recieving damage after a certain point, but it doesnt happen every time. most of the time you will be able to destroy the BP without too much effort (with the ManofWar).

Now, what i do is save the game when on the shore before doing battle with the BP so if the above problem happens i just go straight back and try again.

After that it should work, you just have to keep trying. But believe me, once you realise the Pearl isnt dying dont keep trying to beat it, just face facts and go back to last save or youll be there all day
 
OK Paveyj I will try it again - I did have a save on the beach at the same point as you so at least I do not have to replay a load of the temple stuff again - will report back. Looking back on earlier posts I noticed someone said to `re-initialise` the game with the I key while on the beach - is this also likely to help ?
 
Reinitializing updates your game after a mod has been installed. Doubt itll help here but you can try it, wont hurt afterall
 
Tried it three times now and all the same outcome. The trouble is you have to play out the mission for two hours just to get to the point where you notice the BP has stopped taking damage and I cannot afford to give more time to this mission. A real shame that this breaks the quest game <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsdown.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":2dn" border="0" alt="thumbsdown.gif" /> as it has been fun up till now. Think I will go back to the Oxbay save and just have fun blasting the English and taking their loot for a while <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" /> before I consider approaching this last mission again
 
He must have used the orb
no way could he have taken the pearl down to 9% hull without it.

Aye,I've sunk de Pearl many times,longest it ever took was about 30 minutes,strictly use'n bombs <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
 
Well if he takes 2 hours to get to 9%, he could have not used it.
I sunk Black Pearl in 5 minutes tops on easiest level, might be more on higher.
 
I did have the orb ability chosen in all cases right at the start of the battle - you can see the orb glow at the back of the first man o war screenshot above - only shows up when the orb is selected. Clearly something has gone wrong if people are finishing this in 30 minutes on the easy level (I am also on apprentice).
 
Don't think it would make a diffrence what level yer play'n at.cause BP HP is set de same no matter what level yer play'n at, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
 
OK - I finally beat that bloody devil ship on the 4th go <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbs1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":2up" border="0" alt="thumbs1.gif" /> I went right back to my save on the lighthouse beach after Silehard is defeated and played through the temple maze again to make sure there were no previously bugged sections of the quest before getting to the battle scene. Only things I did different this time...

1. I did not play the final battle from a save immediately before on Khael Rhoa beach - I just let the quest run through with no save at this point.

2. I only activated the anti BP orb utility on my ship and not on any of the other ships with me.

3. I only used cannonballs

The whole thing was over in less than 15 minutes this time - what a difference ! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> Now i'm worth a cool one and a quarter million in gold - think i'll find a quiet island and have some slap and tickle fun with Danielle <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I think its bug No. 2 that got you. I loaded that save on the beach 1000s of times in stock, no bugs there, I only use bombs meself, and I dont usually build fleets. They usually just sit around doing nothing apart from get shot. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" /> Hopefully that was fixed in the build. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />
