lost flags

I'm pretty sure I did this to myself by upgrading ships faster than officers. I have lost the nation flags on my ships. First it was my ship with no flag, then it started only going 2.8 knots. So I got a lower class ship. Then another ship started going 2.8 knots. Sold it. Now we all have ships to match our abilities, but only mine has flags. What does it take to get the flags back?

Missing flags? :wacko:

No ship should have missing flags ever now (we looked at every ship to make sure) :no

Great grief, what have I done now? :j3 All ships had flags until I umm acquired some goodies. Then one or the other would not have flags. I just guessed that it had something to do with a lack of balance, so to speak. :nerbz

LOL! I wuz dumbfounded at the rate a Pinnace with 54 12lb carronades uses up shot. So there I was spitting grapes at a 3rd rate man o war and thinking "It's another fine mess you have gotten us into Ollie". :rumgone

Funny thing is that flags and ship models have absolutely nothing to do with balance nor any goodies!!!

Are you sure that you closely followed instructions regarding installing Build? Could you please enable logging by changing following values in engine.ini:
Code:
tracefilesoff = 0
debuginfo = 1
codefiles = 0runtimelog = 1
replay game until you get this problem and put content of compile.log, error.log (if exists) and system.log here?pirate_kk

PS. Do those flags disappear when viewing ship at some angle and reappear when changing it or when some graphical effects fade out? I have it too but I attributed this to my poor graphics card... If so, there's nothing we could do right now.

Been away for 2 days, and just got back.

Finally got instructions on how to enable logging!! :cheers

I started off reading instructions, but I'm on build 14-5 now and do it from memory.
What I do: Go into my D:-->potc build14 folder and delete everything. Reboot. Run utilities. Install PotC from cds to that folder, change screen resolution in config.exe, start game to verify it runs and quit. Reboot. Install build14 and the fix, and runme.bat and set screen resolution in config.exe. Reboot. Start build 14 and set all the options, then quit. Reboot. Start PotC and begin playing.

No, the flags do not disappear and reappear. All ships had flags at first, then none had flags, then as I started swapping officers around and downsizing ships they started reappearing on one or the other ship. Currently my ship has flags bur the other 2 do not.

Will play tonite.

PS: This is what the FAQ says. Note your instructions differ.

4. I installed the Build Mod as per the instructions, but now my game doesn't work
Please "Enable Error Logging":
- Open "engine.ini" in your main game folder.
- Find the "debuginfo = 0" line and change it to "debuginfo = 1".
- Start the game and wait until the error occurs.
- Now find compile.log, system.log and the possible error.log in your main game folder.
- Post their contents in Build Technical

Ok, here are the error logs. This is the battle at Bridgeport repelling the English fleet.

I've checked error.log and system.log and it looks like installation was messed somehow...

From what I see those flags should appear.

Deleted the second post for you kk :yes

From what I saw I couldnt see anything to do with flags either :no

Oh well. I was hoping this was a simple little thing with an easy fix. Frankly, I have bigger fish to fry. I couldn't use the main screen for half of the battle and used the compass to maneuver with instead. Actually completed the battle and made it back to the dock and managed to save it before the CTD. It's not uncommon for me to have 6 CTD's a day. Oh! This is a new high water mark for build 14! Never got this far before. :mi
