Need Help Looking for Ship in Ship.init

Hi!

At the moment I’m playing Naval officer in the napoleonic era. To make things a little easyer to make money by fighting, I changed the cargo capacity of the United States Class frigate “USS Constitution” wich was easy to find. Now i Got a new ship, wich i want to use as a cargo battleship. It is the Independence class 3rd rate “USS Washington” I tryed alot in de ships.init but i can’t find this one. Does Anybody know how I can find it?

It’s name says “3rd rate” but it’s a class 2 Ship. Saw a few that might be it, they had a different name. Don’t want to mess around if i don’t know for sure

You'll find descriptions such as "Independence class 3rd Rate" in "RESOURCE\INI\TEXTS\ENGLISH\common.ini". In particular:
Code:
string = US_Bellona,"Independence class 3rd Rate"
In "Ships_init.c", look for "US_Bellona". The "refShip.Name" won't always match this label, check the "refShip.SName" line instead. Be warned - more than one model may have the same "refShip.SName" value. But in this case, there is only one "US_Bellona".

The "US_BattleFrigate" and "USS_Constitution" shouldn't need their cargo capacities increased, they already have plenty of space with capacity 2500! By comparison, the fast merchantman, which is the most common freighter you'll see in "Napoleonic", has capacity 2200.

"US_Bellona" has 3000 but you'll need to allow a lot more for food, rum and ammunition. Big ships like that are expensive to run which is why, in reality, they tended to stay in port unless they were needed for a big battle. Most of the work was done by frigates, which is why you see frigates, not ships of the line, in the film "Master and Commander".

Thank you! Very intresting about the fact they stay at port for most of the time, I can understand why. I can only wonder how much of a cost it must be for like a man o war.

For how the ships are intended to be in the game they are perfectly done. With that amount of cargo capacity.

For my gameplay I’m in need of a Ship who has alot of cargo capacity so I don’t have to head back to the port everytime I plunderd a trade Ship, I’m playing an all out war as americans against the world so trading with other Ports is not an option. Before I get to the rank in wich I get a man o war I want to have some capital so I can upgrade it and maintain it. My last gameplay I managed to get the 2 man o wars from the ranks and 1 i captured but i ran in the problem, trade ships outran me or i accidently sank them before I could plunder.

If you have an "Independence" class 3rd rate, you should be looking for bigger targets. A fort can not outrun you and you're not going to sink it, though as a naval officer, you won't have the option of looting the town; your job is to fight for your nation, which means you have to capture the town for America. On the other hand, once you've captured a few towns, you'll have more places to sell the loot from captured merchants.

Also, if you're high enough rank to earn ships of the line then you're high enough rank to rearrange your fleet however you like, which means if you can capture an enemy frigate, you can use it as your flagship. That should allow you to chase after merchants. Use chainshot to slow them down, use grapeshot to reduce their crew morale, don't use cannonballs if you don't want to sink them.

If you want to keep the big ship, don't just press space and let the guns aim themselves. Aim high to hit the masts and sails, then press "V" to fire manually. If you get it right, you'll be less likely to sink the target and more likely to chop its masts down.
