Just curious: booby trapped chest and patrolling soldiers

I've been wondering what would happen, if I open a booby trapped chest in the street just as a group of patrolling soldiers pass by me. If one of the soldiers get injured by the booby trap too, will the soldiers then consider me the perpetrator and attack me?

I wouldn't think the code for checking who does damage will apply to random explosions such as chests, only to weapon strikes.

By comparison, I haven't injured a soldier with an exploding chest but I have injured an innocent civilian who had the misfortune to be walking past the chest while I was trying to open it. If you attack an armed civilian, he attacks you back; if you attack an unarmed civilian, you lose reputation. None of this happened.
