It all goes dark (or mostly dark) at sea

I seem to have an interesting fault, where by the game works on land, however at sea, the area that should be the sea is black, though the sky is still visible, and F 1 and F 2 still work. I'm pretty sure I installed it correctly (I've tried 5 times, so chances I got it right on at least 1 attempt!), and I've tried the swift shadder thing. After that the sky went black to, though I could still see the rain. Any clues/ suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Missing textures create that black effect. I can´t think of anything but the installment is not correct - sorry to say.

Sure about your drivers are the most recent? Your graphics card support the game? Did you run the Runme.bat after installing patch 3 and 4?

That is without any mods installed? Did the game work properly before on that computer?
Try using <a href="http://piratesahoy.net/build/modules.zip" target="_blank">this MODULES</a> folder; sometimes that solves it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Oddly, both the original game and Build 13 work fine. The problem only affects 14.9. Also, the drivers etc are up to date. I haven't tried patch 3 or 4, only 5.

Uh? Original game works and Build 14 Alpha 9 doesn't? You're not forgetting any installation steps, are you? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />
Try and <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=9234" target="_blank">enable error logging</a> and see what you get in system.log, compile.log and the possible error.log.

I found the problem. For some reason, while the Build 13 bat file was working, vista's security thing seems to have stopped the 9.5 one from working, even though it ran. Changing the security settings fixed it. Though why 14.9 didn't work on its own is beyond me. Thanks for you help, you managed to jog my memory about the rubbish security stuff <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="bow.gif" /> .

just make sure you dont install the game in your programs folder

ps. i think there is something wrong with the smileys when you reply to someone...
