Need Help Issues with automatic aiming and forts

Beta 3.1

I'm having issues with automatic aiming and hitting forts accurately (I have 10 accuracy). What near enough always seems to happen is that the cannons aim far too high and end up missing the cannons on the forts, which goes the same for my fleet. I've attached one example of this happening, which I tried to capture to the best of my ability without getting blasted.

As the attached print-screen shows, a few cannons have been knocked out, but only through luck as the ship behind mine got a couple, and I scuffed a couple more with one salvo. Of course, I thought I should try manual aiming, but can hardly get the option to shoot, and when I do, it aims too low or flies right over. I've managed to score a couple of hits this way, but suffer too much damage trying to get perfect hits and is not preferable.

I spent a good amount of gold on the fleet to the tune of ~2million gold. One ship has already been sunk and couple of others badly damaged. I made a save before the battle, so I can just restart once I can destory the cannons as I should be able to. A full fleet on Apprentice difficulty and ship upgrades should be able to destory the Bridgetown fort without getting creamed, which has happened the past few times I've tried this, but alas have fallen victim to bizzare automatic aiming.I understand the ships may not be first rate ship of the lines, but they are all class 4 purpose build war ships which have been upgraded, as well as upgrades for the captains controlling the ships to take less damage, which is the same for me.

If I'm far back enough, I manage to score a few cannon knockouts, but at this time the fleet is practically sunk with me not far from a watery grave. I know I've probably gone on a bit here, but I've just come off it a bit annoyed, but if I can find a way to do this that would be great. It could be my own ignorance of something, or it could be an actual issue with the aiming. Automatic aiming is great for ship battles, just that it seems dodgy for fort battles.

I'm no expert at attacking forts since I have only attacked one in the last 2 years, but it went easily on swashbuckler level. My escort ships did all the damage while I killed a few earthworms and gophers.

I do know that auto aim is supposed to shoot high, which is great for taking out sails. Never use it meself.

I usually use the HMS Dauntless for my fort-destroying tests, but that always went very quickly with pretty much all cannons hitting.
Make sure you do use regular balls or perhaps some of the rare bombs if you have them.

The game is coded to deliberately aim higher ONLY when using chainshot at a relatively large distance.

Well I'm using regular balls, and thought I should try long guns and go further back and try that way to see if it would make a difference. Just that when I have tried manual aiming it always seems to hit the fort wall, beach or fly just over the cannons when given the option/capability to fire. I'm trying to think of a few other things I could do, but autoaiming just seems to be failing most the time with the screenshot I attached happening too often. Maybe it's just this fort, I don't know. I remember I had greater luck when I captured a first rate ship of the line in a previous playthrough. It went quite smoothly that time 'round.

Just as a test, use the console to give yourself the Dauntless and try again on Bridgetown.
That is what worked for me.

Ultimately I decided to just turn on god mode for me and my fleet, and got lucky with our shots as we managed to destory the fort cannons. I disabled it for everyone and me once we landed the troops.
