If Pirates were more like real life...

Because the grandfather is always rescued last, you would go to his wooden shack only to find that the flies and smell arrived first. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Settlements give you escort missions because the governor is dead, not because the economy stinks.

Anyone have any more? This isn't a bash at Sid or the game, I just want to laugh and I hope you will too.

The special items should be important and hard to get, but they should not cost as much as an entire city is worth. One time I bought a diamond necklace for something like 6600 gold from wealthy Havana. I left town, landed, and sacked Havana. I got 6000 gold from the sacking. How can one diamond necklace be worth more than the entire city of Havana, or the entire Spanish Treasure Fleet.

You pay the Mysterious Traveler 1000 gold to tell you where Baron Raymondo won't be when you get there, or you pay 2500 for a ruby ring, yet a fully rigged Ship of the Line only sells for 1800 gold.

When you are a higher rank than the Captain of the guard in the Tavern, he should step aside peacefully, or be imprisoned for insubordination.

I absolutely refuse to pay that traveler 1,000 dubloons for information. I just go to the missions and talk to the abbot. And normally visit the taverns in pirate havens to get ruby rings for 500 and diamond necklaces for 1,800. Seems they sell at the lowest price, about like poor ports. While I'm here, what is a mod? Please be patient. I've only been connected to the internet since December and until upgrading to a Dell 4700 I was stuck with a PS/2 for the past five years. And at the risk of sounding insane, is there a way to use a joystick for the sword fights and dancing? I have arthritis, and needless to say, my reflexes are worthless and coordination is even worse. Not sure it would make a difference, but it might give me a fighting chance at higher levels. I'm also new to forums like this and don't have a clue what I'm doing. Love the emoticons (spelling?). Can you get these to put in `e-mails`? Ha! Thank you.

The piratey smileys (emoticons) are easily downloaded to your own computer for use in emails - just click on the "ALL" button (or the "View more Emoticons" link) to show a popup window with the entire collection. Then right click on the window to select "SAVE PAGE AS", and take the whole webpage complete - make sure to rename it something that you'll remember, and save it in a place you know you can find - then you will have all the images and you can put them into emails as you wish. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Welcome aboard, Norseman, and thanks for asking that. I didn't know it was possible and never thought to ask. Calm seas to you, matey. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Thank you, for the welcome and the information. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute something here, but it looks like you've touched on about everything. Maybe one of these days I'll be able to advance past Journeyman. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Which means what I said in the previous post could be useless if things change at higher levels. But I really enjoy this game. Check the Atari forum and it's filled with complaints. I've rarely had problems and those are minor inconveniences. Dancing is rough, but it sure has great graphics and it's fun. Anyway, thanks, mates!

I clicked on View more Emoticons but when right clicking on the page, I don't get an option to "SAVE PAGE AS".

Also, I thought I saw somewhere some smileys fencing in someone's post, but I don't see them with this selection either.

I see the fencers now. I had an eyepatch over both 'me eyes.

Aaargh.....

Still can't find a way to save the whole page though. Just individual icons.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" /> Sorry, I guess with Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers you can't do that. So you'll have to save each individual smiley, from that page. (I use Netscape, and you can "save page as" to get the whole page and all images in one action)

Glad you like the fencers <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> - that was a hard one to make work the way I wanted it to... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

I had the same problem. Couldn't save the page. If I figure out how I managed to get them I'll report back, but at the moment I'm clueless. I think I created a link to them and have the option of working `off-line`.

To Bully Hayes for thanking me for asking. It didn't take me but a few minutes to wish I hadn't asked about the smilies and using them in `e-mails`. I no more than just signed onto this forum and was opening a sack to plunder something. Make a great first impression. Enter the Pirates forum and immediately act like one. I apologize for that. That was rude of me. But I hope I can redeem myself by helping someone else. I haven't got it yet, but I was told about a joystick that can be programmed for use with different games (apparently like programming it to simulate key presses on the keypad, for example). Logitech has a wireless one from what I learned. That may be the answer for the fencing and dancing for those of us who have some disfigurement to their hands thanks to arthritis.

Edit: The impression I got from the person who told me about the Logitech joystick was it could be programmed to be like key presses, but I have yet to confirm that and could be wrong. Still checking.

If these smileys weren't for the public, they wouldn't be here! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Try right clicking on each individual smiley you wish to save, and save it in a directory on your hard drive.

OR you could try viewing the page in a full browser window instead of a popup: <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net/posting.php?mode=smilies" target="_blank">http://forum.piratesahoy.net/posting.php?mode=smilies</a> and THEN doing a "save page as" from the file menu. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
