So i finally got a debit card and the first thing i did was buy the maelstrom engine. i had been previously playing CoAS and i was kind of content. apart from the ships and the subtle differences that the new engine and mod brings. So of course when i heard that the maelstrom engine brought in bug fixes and other features, aswell as ERAS 2 bringing in soo many ships, i had to buy it. Ive been playing it for 3 days and im having a blast playing as Michiel De Ruyter. however, i have some subtle ideas to mabye give the game a bit more realism-(atleast in my opinion).
My ideas:
My ideas:
- A system in which you can close your gun ports. gives a more realistic view of when ships sailed. they never sailed with their gun ports open and cannons out. It ould be nice to close them. and get a tingle when you see your enemies' 2 or 3 deckers opening their gun ports in a slow motion.
- A way to set up a more intricate system to do with naval formations. you see ive realised there are a lot of heavy warships-(Ships Of The Line) however they never form an effective formation. such as a typical line formation, or a formation breaking formation and so on. It would be nice to have a bit of strategy, since it seems the devs have striven for a lot of realism.
- This is mabye not doable but i think it would be a nice touch. Mabye there may be a way to integrate with a nations trading company. For example, You pay a fee and you are given a VoC or GwC or whatever nation specific company a patent, not to allow entry to ports, but also a way to make your own caravans. You buy ships suc as caraccs, flutes or galleons or whatever ship to transport. then you buy some fast and armed frigates as escorts; instruct them where to go based off the trade goods prices, and off they go. Ofcourse you have to implement a margin of error for these things, so you add pirates or enemy encounters and thus you may have a chance to lose everything, or a bit if some ships escape.
- Pirate AI: The Ai in my opinion is quite appalling. I know the game is old, but what pirate-(They weren't this stupid) on their own sails in their snow or tartane even into my 92-Gun SoTL ith intent to fight? i don't think that is very realistic. i would expect pirates with at least frigates or 2 deckers, or decked out galleons. I HATE having to always be chased by a sloop when im chasing convoys. I HATE IT. and they don't give up until i unleash my broadside. and even then i HAVE to sink them. ITS annoying.
- Maybe expand the map as well? Like to Portugal controlled Brasil to the other islands like Nassau or Aruba? make it a bit more varied instead of only 3 dutch ports, and 1 is in English territory which is annoying to get to. This one is Optional since i already am quite fond of the vastness of the map.
